Gramarye is the practice of learning magic. For thousands of years, people have used a grimoire (book of magic) to cast spells and summon spirits. Of course, magic fell out of favor over the centuries, the same as brewing with rye. Interest in magic seems to be on the upswing these days, and so is the interest in brewing with rye. A coincidence? This is our take on session pale ale made with a dose of rye malt to give it that luscious feel and snappy finish. We think it is magical.

Tap at Crafty Crow, Nottingham. Clear amber. Off white head. Blackcurrant Chewit sweets. Pink grapefruit. Taste is light sweet. Light bitter. Decent body, for the ABV. Bitter finish. Dry, right at the close.

A bit boring. Pours a beautiful bright orange-amber color with a white head. Smells nice, some hops and rye. Taste is lacking in complexity, but well balanced. But of a strange bitter aftertaste. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Tap at Bamboo. Rye weirdness, pine, bit of funk. Quite dry and bit fruity. Interesting, but not as interesting as previous rye beers I’ve had. Not sure I really get Heretic yet.

Clear golden orange in color... Aroma of rye malts, floral hops... Enjoyable interplay of the spicy rye malts and hops, fairly bitter and spicy on finish... ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle shared by beerpig317. Poured clear dark golden color with an average frothy off-white head that mostly lasted with good lacing. Moderate citrus hop aroma. Medium body with a slick texture and soft carbonation. Medium citrus bittersweet flavor with a medium bittersweet finish of moderate duration. Solid drinkable brew.

22 oz bottle shared by beerpig317. Pours a clear golden orange color with a thin off white film. The aroma and flavor have big tangerine citrus (nose especially), grass, light sweet, light herbal. The flavor is really lacking on this. The nose had promise.

22oz bottle shared by beerpig317. Clear red orange color. Thin white head. Dots of lace. Smooth soft carbonation. More dry texture. Light to medium body. Nice toasty lightly spicy malt profile. Hint of citrus hop. Moderate bitter taste, light sweet. Decent rye pale ale, good bitterness. A bit soft and dry though.

(Bottle) Hazy coppery amber with good dense off-white head. Lovely aroma - floral hops over toast with hints of pine and honey. Medium body with excellent carbonation - velvety and bright. Good session beer taste - not heavy or rich, but with rye giving unusual bread notes to the malt, and some nice crisp bitterness in the finish. A very quaffable American Pale Ale.
