This a big, dark ale with a complex and rich chocolate and caramel malt character followed by a touch of warmth and light malt sweetness, leaving you ready for more after each shovelful. Tasting at Bruce’s Pad. Thanks to Colin. Opaque black - brown beer, good mid-tan head. Airy palate. Mildly tangy dark malts. Touch of lactose. That’s about it. A pretty dull porter.

Bottle shared in London - thanks to Colin. Pours clear, dark brown with a fine, creamy tan head. Tangy dark malts in the nose, a bit of cocoa, earth, dark berries. Light to medium sweet flavor with charred toast, burnt earth, mild tangy berries, moderate roast. Medium bodied with fine to average, massaging carbonation. Bittersweet cocoa on the finish with further dark bread, earth, burnt wood. Not bad.

Scopey (7444) - Croydon, Greater London, ENGLAND - APR 8, 2014
Bottle thanks to Colin. It pours darkest brown with a small beige head. The nose is earthy, toast, cocoa, milk chocolate, dirt, almost oxidised nose and a touch of soy sauce. The taste is roasty, toast, watery, charred wood, ash, cocoa, soy sauce and peppery spice with a dry finish. Light-medium body and average carbonation. Pretty watery. Not real depth to it.

Tap at dig beer baR. Fat pruney and burnt rubber phenolic nose. Translucent brown color. Rubber bands, chocolate, and wine-soaked raisins. Thin-medium body. This is thin, watery, and way too phenolic. The bar owner at Dig is well-known for taking good care of beer lines and serving beers in good condition. But I suspect that this one is not at its peak.

Tap at Dig. Nose or roasty chocolate, umami, wine ro port, and lots of phenols-berries and rubber. Flavor is super phenoloc, tons of black berry and burnt rubber, with chocolate and lots of umami. Nice silky body. This could be good but the phenolic character makes it almost impossible to drink.

On tap. Clear dark brown pour, with a light tan head. Roasted malt, caramel, mild chocolate sweetness, bread, and notes of coffee. Decent porter, a bit thin.
