COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Shallow Grave Porter is dark as night, perfect for a cool evening out in the woods. This a big, dark ale with a complex and rich chocolate and caramel malt character followed by a touch of warmth and light malt sweetness, leaving you ready for more after each shovelful. You will love this so much you won’t have time to dig a six-footer, so make it a Shallow Grave. We’re sure you’ll dig it.

Pours a clear reddish-black with a root beer head. Poor head retention. Dark chocolate and sorghum bouquet. Dry dark chocolate flavor that yields to a bitter coffee finish. It was strongly recommended that I have this beer. He must’ve been drunk. Heretic’s Evil Cousin and Evil Twin are both far more interesting.

On tap at Abbot’s Cellar. Roasted toasted coffee, licorice, chocolate, and lactose. Really nice sweet and salty porter aromas. Dark black-brown opaque with lacing tan head. Medium-heavy body with medium carbonation and some warmness. Starts sweet and rich with chocolate, coffee, lactose, and molasses. Chocolate malted milk, sweet finish with nutty sweet bitter after. Nice porter.

Excellent porter. The only thing wrong with this is that the head did not hold up very well but that may because the glass. I would like to see a competition between this brewer and a trappist ale.

Bottle: Dark brown color with a tan ring with a choco, licorice, date and slight berry aroma. Coffee flavors with a lingering smoky aftertaste. Much thicker than most Porters. Very tasty!

FROTHINGSLOSH (5077) - GREENSBURG, Pennsylvania, USA - MAR 9, 2013
From the March 2013 3R6P tasting. +++ Sampled from a 22 oz brown bottle this beer poured a black color with a medium sized brown head that faded quickly and left a bit of lacing. The aroma was dry, roasty, smoky and woody. The flavor was dry and roasty with notes of anise and smoke and old school McDonalds coffee (the really bad stuff). Medium length dry McDonalds coffee finish. Medium body. Pretty awful.
