COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Shallow Grave Porter is dark as night, perfect for a cool evening out in the woods. This a big, dark ale with a complex and rich chocolate and caramel malt character followed by a touch of warmth and light malt sweetness, leaving you ready for more after each shovelful. You will love this so much you won’t have time to dig a six-footer, so make it a Shallow Grave. We’re sure you’ll dig it.

Very old 22 oz. bottle dated 4/16/12. Aroma is delicious - vanilla and chocolate with some dark fruit/raisin notes. Appears pitch black but brilliantly clear with ruby/garnet highlights at the edge of the glass. Head retention is nonexistent (I’ve had this beer three times now, always the same) and dissipates like I just poured a coca-cola. Taste is as promised by the aroma and is very nicely balanced. A very broad and complex palate of toasty/chocolate flavors mingle with vanilla/fruity/caramelized flavors. This is possibly the maltiest tasting porter I’ve had (which is sort of how this porter makes its mark on the style). The mouthfeel is medium to full with the appropriate balance of carbonation - it’s satisfyingly malty and sweet but not cloying. Overall this is an excellent robust porter that is certainly one of the best bottled porters you can buy. It would be nice to find a fresh one for comparison, but this beer seems to hold up to aging very well.

Bomber from PlumpJack. Black in color with a really nice tan head. Big chocolate aroma with caramel and toffee and molasses. Mildly sweet flavor with caramel yielding to a bitter coffee and cocoa finish. Soft palate with average carbonation. Really nice porter.

Bottle. Moderate to heavy malt notes of dark toasted dark bread, dark chocolate and mild coffee, light resin and earth for the hops and yeast. Head is small, frothy/creamy, light brown with good lacing and is mostly diminishing. Volor is very dark brown. Flavor starts lightly sweet and acidic, then finishes lightly acidicm and moderately bitter. Palate is on the fuller side of medium, creamy with a carbonation between lively and fizzy and finishes very dry. A rich and tasty Porter with a dry and bitter finish.

"Starts out with a nice robust aroma of malted chocolate, dark fruit, caramel. Flavor is nice if a little muddled. More sweet, less roast than I’d like. But that said it was still Pretty nice."
