Our Torment is a rich beer with lots of caramel, malt, dark fruit, and dark Belgian candi sugar notes. The luscious fruity character is full of caramel apples, candied pears, and chocolate covered oranges.

Bottle from Denman. Ruddy brown. This one poured with no head. The aroma actually smells oxidized, despite the wax. There’s some dark fruity notes...raisins and plums. Has a sweet taste, again oxidized dark fruits. Finishes with a shot of alcohol. Nothing much going on, a basic inoffensive dark Belgian.

Dark brown and almost clear. Has an off-white head. Heavy sweet aroma, notes of dried fruits, grains. Nice warming alcohol. Heavy sweet flavor too. Over-toasted notes.

Pours clear mahogany into a Trappist glass. White head with little retention recedes to skim surface. Dark caramel and hot pit fruit aromas. Sweet dark caramel and chocolate upfront turning to summer and pit fruit before the lasting dusty hot cocoa finish.

Dark reddish brown, with thin tan head. Aroma is mild, dark fruit, and taste is a touch boozy, but the description nails it with chocolate covered oranges. It’s about a year old, and celebratory for Violet coming home.

From the waxed 650 ml. bottle dated 11/20/15. Deep ruby red pour with lingering, soft tan head. The aroma brings out a cherry-like fruitiness with sweet roasted caramel malts and a low to no hop profile. The body is medium to full. The taste emphasizes the fruity characters above all and the alcohol is well masked. This one left my head spinning.

650ML bottle Clear dark mahogany color. Light tan head that falls to a decent collar. A few strips of lacing and a bit of AVB lacing. Nose is bubble gum, cotton candy, pear, poached pear and dementia sugar. Good nose but a tad bit sweet to me. Taste is banana, bubble gum, port, pear, poached pear, clove, and sugar. Still a bit sweet in the first par t but does get more integrated. A bit thin in the mouth and a touch slickly sweet. A little bit of wood in the back of the mouth but still pretty full bodied. Not a bad Belgian style at all. Might see how this is after more age on it.

Tasted this in the Doghouse, Glasgow on the 30th January 2016. Keg, font dispense. Clear mahogany in colour with a thin off white head. Strong malt clear in the long intense aroma with notes of overripe pear and warm candyfloss. Thin mouthfeel and no lacing. Strong complex mixed malts deliver a rich liquid malt extract base with sweet candied fruit notes, dates, barley twist, Demerara sugar. There is a surprising earthy element to the hop resins which came as a pleasant after thought and gave a good bitter balance to the malt. The finish is malty with typical Belgian sweet flavours of candyfloss, golden syrup, dates and boozy sherry notes present in the mouth. Reminded me a lot of Harviestoun Nouveau - for those of you that can remember that little classic! Highly recommended.
