0.8 AROMA 2/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 1/10 PALATE 1/5 OVERALL 1/20 pschut (4) - - NOV 2, 2007 does not count
Absolutely awful. Incredible head filled my mug and wouldn’t settle. Flavour sharp and acrid and utterly undrinkable. I like Heritage Dark, but this one is not worth seeking out - except to torment a fellow beer drinker.
3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 14/20 Metalchopz (1429) - Quebec, CANADA - AUG 31, 2011
Originally rated June 2006. This spring maple lager pours a rich golden-amber colour with a yellow-white head that disappears at a medium pace. Mild lacing all around with tiny light bubble carbonation that is steady. Sweet maple nose with a pleasant purfume of hop. Watery mouhfeel that is slightly syrupy. Beautiful sweet touch of sap that is not overly sugary. The sweetness then disappears slowly into the aftertaste. Some smokiness, but would prefer it more dominant. Overall, a nice treat for springtime and a good representation of a Canadian resource.
2.9 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 jimmay (735) - Waterloo, Ontario, CANADA - SEP 18, 2010
650 ml bottle from LCBO. Pours deep reddy brown, with large beige head, leaving lots of lacing. Aroma is sour, taste is also dominated by sour, but lots of smoky malt and some unidentified sweetness, but not maple. Perhaps I’ve left this too long.

2.2 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 9/20 Spab (1195) - Toronto, Ontario, CANADA - MAY 22, 2010
650 ml bottle from LCBO. Pours a hazy brown with hints of orange at the edges and a smallish but lasting beige head. Aroma somewhat sour with caramel malt and smokiness. Flavour is bigger on the smokiness (although not all that smoky), lighter on the sourness (although it’s still there) and a bit of cloying sweetness not particularly identifiable as maple. Light carbonation. Not very good.

2.3 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 10/20 piscator34 (1644) - Winnipeg, Manitoba, CANADA - OCT 14, 2009
Bottled sample via boutip. Pale amber in colour with very strong and fizzy carbonation. Maple syrup aromas dominate, along with some sour citrus, caramel, and mild smoke notes. Flavors are of maple, tree bark, and under ripe orange. Very dry. There’s an odd sourness here that isn’t quite "off beer", but is still somewhat disconserting. Hardly seems smokey enough to be classified as a smoked beer.
2.5 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 9/20 strowlands8 (168) - Ontario, CANADA - SEP 8, 2009
Tasted sour with a sweetness that didn’t do anything for the style. Not a good beer.

I know, you see some of us beer obsessives fervently researching on their PDAs whatever’s in front of them at the store or on the tap list. OK, maybe you see just my dorky @$$ pullin’ that $#!+. Well, sitting outside at Volo with the Beautiful Bride on our anniversary, I tossed caution to the wind and said, "serve me up a Maple Bush." Let’s just say this wasn’t one of those Costanza moments where doing the opposite of your first thought will meet with incredible success. Allow me to explain this offering served up in an Imperial pint glass off the tap...
OK, it’s not all bad of a first impression. It actually pours a nice dark honey with a rather light head dissipating rather quickly. Could be much worse. Looks like it could be promising with a little maple color and cloudiness.
At first this has a slightly sour taste - is this infected After a while I conclude that no, it’s not infected. At least that would give it an excuse. There’s a little maple sweetness. A little earthy stewiness with noble hops. Not what we’re looking for.
First impressions: Tastes like dirt underneath a maple tree running with sap. The BB says it’s like "licking a shoe." Very slatish. Sourness dissipates but still tastes like dirty lines for a while. Or, more accurately a messy, poorly-constructed beer.
The blessing: goes quicker than it tastes, ’cause I’m rushing. There’s still a slight sour earth feeling, but this isn’t making the taste buds dance...it’s making them run. Grassy, dirty, maybe some noble hops pucker up the palate a bit?
Please make this go away. This was my mistake. Sure, maybe there are degree of difficulty points for Canadian tap lists since I’m quite unfamiliar with the lesser-known local offerings but the information was there and I didn’t use it to the best of my abilities. This is a dirty-tasting musty offering. Next.
3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 cfrancis (1361) - Ottawa, Ontario, CANADA - JUN 12, 2009
For a maple lager, this was fairly good. It tasted almost as if they took their premium lager and put in hints of maple. It was very pleasant. Taste of maple and citrus highlights.
