BytownJon (23), Ontario, Canada May 11, 2008 Pint on tap at The Pelican Grill in Ottawa. No head but small amt. of lacing when reached the table. Acidic citrus aroma. Overall a "light" dark, with medium-light body. ILduce (133), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Apr 17, 2008 Stubby: Golden almost copper colour. Hoppy, floral nose with grassy notes. Somewhat herbal with faint malt flavour...white bread. Medium-bodied but unbalanced with a bitter almost sour? aftertaste. BeerPrince (1701), Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada Mar 6, 2008 From the stubby bottle this beer is golden with a light quick fading head. Aroma is white bread with a touch of earthy hops. Sweeter on the palate but decent richness. Not a bad lager. sstackho (249), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Sep 30, 2007 12oz bottle. Labelled for the 175th anniversary of the Rideau Canal, but I don’t know if the brew inside is at all different. Pours a pale gold with tons of head and carbonation. Little to no aroma. The flavour starts off pretty basic, but gets markedly better with the aftertaste - though I note that the beer description boasts "no aftertaste" (WHY?????).
JustinBathurst (134), Corner Brook, Newfoundland, Canada Sep 12, 2007 Pours a clear orange-gold, with a 2 cm head of white suds. The head remained as lace in a most excellent manner.
The aroma is mostly hoppy with notes of celery and grass, and a touch of lemon, nutmeg, and beeswax.
The mouthfeel is crisp, with medium carbonation.
The taste is fairly big on the hops without ever being a hop demon. There’s a sour lemon tang, a mild-medium bitter finish, and some honey sweet malt.
All in all, this is better than Heritage’s Traditional Dark in the taste department, but that’s not saying much. TheJester (694), Peterborough, Ontario, Canada Aug 9, 2007 341 mL stubby. Pale yellow-gold with a large head that quickly recedes. Aroma is grassy with a bit of soap. Taste swings from sweet to bitter, beginning with malty sweetness (and maybe a little corn), but it finished quite bitter on the top of the tongue. Decent body for a lager, although it seems a little gritty. Better than the macros. rederic (1787), montréal, Quebec, Canada Jul 24, 2007 Bright yellow color, with a white head, leaving laces, wet cut hay nose, with a spicy floral hop accent, an earthy pale malt, with a grassy note with a kind of essential hop oil aroma follows through on a medium-bodied palate with a clean flowery hop character, with a good leafy accent, with a mild honeyed pale malt note, leading towards a leafy, hop bitterness finish. The beer is not balanced between his hoppiness and his maltiness, being too much hopped. MrManning (1634), London, Ontario, Canada Jul 22, 2007 Updated: Jul 23, 2007 Pours deep copper with a frothed white foam. Aroma is burnt malts with some hoppy components. Brown sugar with a soft hop .Very bitter hoppy flavour. Caramel malts with some german dry hop bitterness. Fruit and bread all in one. A good lager from Ron!
