MartinT (5030), Montreal, Quebec, Canada Feb 28, 2005 The Lure: Grassy hops protrude from the yeasty haystack. Cidery hints and sulphur suggestions peek over the transparent golden yellow surface.
The Festivities: Lingering grassy, resinous hop bitterness plays heartily with the earthy yeast. The haystack still looks on from not too far away, as does a rusty, wheel-less car. Light, refreshing, but full of distressing watery interludes.
Transcendence: A competent macro replacement, but nowhere near a good pils replacement. Sickboy282 (1098), San Diego, California, USA Feb 4, 2005 Pours an almost greenish-yellow hue with a frothy white head with poor lacing. Aromas of grass???, hay, fresh hops without the bittering and a little buttery. Mouthfeel is medium bodied with a lingering finish. Flavors of copper??, honey , a little bubble gum and a hint of flowers. Decent for what it is, but far from amazing. muzzlehatch (4427), Burlington, Vermont, USA Jan 24, 2005 341 ml stubby bottle. See-through golden blond with a modicum of creamy white thin-looking head...fresh, sweet grass and a surprising amount of hoppiness in the nose...solid, full body, moderate herb-flecked hoppiness throughout, a touch of honey and a lovely bitter/dry herbal finish. Top-notch for style; thanks Luc! IPFreely (1470), Lewiston, New York, USA Apr 27, 2004 POurs a clear golden color, big fluffy white head and a decent amount of lace. Light hops and malt in the nose. Flavor is malty but a little too grainy. Short finish. Lighter body. Really not all that bad. presario (2953), Calgary, Alberta, Canada Apr 26, 2004 Stubby bottle. Gold with a lite starting head and lite but attractive lacing. Minimal bubbles. Decent hoppy aroma. Hoppy bitterness. Sweet without being too sweet. Thicker mouth feel. Rating for style definately above average. piscator34 (1121), Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada Apr 13, 2004 A nice surprise. It's clear gold in colour and has quite a hoppy nose. There's a hoppy flavor as well, with a bit of a floral nose. It has a bit of a strange chemical aftertaste, but even that is not entirely unpleasant. It's closer to Pilsner Urquell than you might think. Thanks Lubiere! wnp22 (682), Toronto (Roncesvalles Village), Ontario, Canada Dec 27, 2003 Tasted in Ottawa (Kanata) from LCBO. (I am visiting the inlaws as I write this, and I am sneaking in a review at their PC.) Nice stubby. Identicle to the Heritage ale sampled sometime in the summer. For me, there is something romantic about stubby's - I distinctly remember my father drinking 50 in stubbies in the summertime of my youth after cutting a large back yard lawn and the shape image has stuck with me. Appearance is golden amber in colour, colour, clear with a thin white sustained head. Aroma is somewhay soapy with a slightly sour embodiment. Full of flowery / spicy hops and very little malt presence. Taste is slightly, but only slightly more well balanced. Has a strong forefront bitter presence. Well hopped with a slight lingering malty background, but very faint background at that. DougShoemaker (2855), Toronto, Canada Dec 7, 2003 Malt and hops in the aroma, clear yellow, pours a huge fluffy white head. Distinctive hop and malt flavour. Well balanced, light bodied, with a very nice bitterness. A pleasant surprise!
