Heritage Traditional Dark Lager

Brown bottle, 341 ml, purchased at the LCBO, savoured on July 2 2008; eye: voluminous tan head (9 fingers of head for 1 finger of beer), lots of lacing, copper, clear, no effervescence; nose: infection; mouth: thin, a bit of infection (a lot less than the nose was stating), finale in caramel with a hing of infection, watery, no carbonation; overall: to try again FRANÇAIS Bouteille brune, 341 ml, achetée à la LCBO, savourée le 2 juillet 2008; œil : mousse fauve volumineuse (9 doigts de mousse pour 1 doigt de bière), beaucoup de dentelle, cuivrée, claire, pas d’effervescence; nez : infection; bouche : mince, un p’tit peu d’infection (beaucoup moins qu’au nez), finale en caramel avec une pointe d’infection, aqueuse, pas de carbonatation; en résumé : à réessayer

Bottled at RBESG 2007. A hazy amber beer with a thin beige head. The aroma is weet mlaty with strong notes of bread. The flavor is sweet with not3es of bread and caramel with slight acidic notes in the background.

My first rating;I wanted it to be a good one but unfortunatly it is not! Bottle,from L.C.B.O.Drunk 46 days after bottling date. Let me help translate.. .When a Canadian beer co. writes "It has the color and hop ratio of the original Bavarian Lagers but done in our own Canadian style",that means that they are "trying there best" to be true to the style but are really brewing to the mass market of Canadian beer drinkers! Generally weak overall.The beer drinker that might like this the most is one who can’t get to Belgium or Holland and appreciates the sweet/sour traditional brewing techniques of old world brewers.

Au fût à "A cottage and a kitchen". Couleur brun ambrée tirant sur les teintes cerises. Peu ou pas de mousse, avec une effervescence légère. Parfum de houblon et de caramel léger. Goût frais, dominé par le houblon avec des pointes surettes. Goût de caramel très léger. Palais plutôt aqueux. Une bière pour le grand marché, peu remarquable avec quelques emprunts aux bières de style.

Dark clear orangy brown, dunkel. Light head. Smells fruity and tangy. Unexpectedly so. A little sweet tasting, slightly wheaty, not as much as expected from a Dunkel. A little bitter aftertaste.

Okay any microbrew that puts it’s beer in stubbies gets a bonus. Insane head on this one. Too much. A nice dark pour. Stong sulfur and phospherous scent, like someone just blew out a match. To quote the Simpsons "It Smells Like Burning" The oddest and most unpleasant beer scent I have ever smelled. It reminds me of the smell that issued from my PC when I burt out the motherboard last week. The taste is just a foul. Maybe the brewery caught fire and my batch is smoked damaged or something. I can’t see how anyone would sell this to anyone else. Looking at other rates, I wonder if I got an off batch or something. The only thing this beer gets any credit for, is it looked damn good.

Bottle at home ... Thanks to Dan for the bottle ... Hazy ruby ... fruity cherry slightly sweet malt nose ... light fizz slightly tart dark fruityness ... lemon sour malts ... rich and easily drinkable.
