Nice hoppy nose (surprising for a lager), good balance between malt and hops (Saaz?). Heritage have atypically hoppy, resinous beers, which i wont complain as I am an inconditional of IPAs. However, if you did a blind tasting, I would never call that a Dunkel!!!For a local brewery, well done. 6-4-6-4-13 Same golden brown amber colour with a thick off white head. Aroma is much more fruity, with strong strawberry notes. In mouth, a sweet caramel malt, with oily mouthfeel and the same berryish qualities, a decent brew. | 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Sep 21, 2005 Bottle (341ml). At Pub Italia, Ottawa. Poured clear amber with a small off-white diminishing head - not bad, but also not DARK. Citrusy hop/malt aroma - like fresh-squeezed orange and grapefruit, medium slightly roasty malt, a touch of oak and yeast - nice. Taste follows the nose, starts juicy sweet finishes somewhat resiny-bitter, and there’s definitely a caramel character in there too. Palate is lightly creamy but a little too flat - medium bodied. This is a lovely brew, but I have a hard time thinking "dunkel" when I drink it - nice and balanced and easy to drink. Radek Kliber (4001), Toronto (Can) Krotoszyn (Pol), Ontario, Canada
