UPDATED: FEB 8, 2007 341 ml stubby bottle - pours a clear light chestnut, with a solid though quickly diminshing head. Aroma of fruity hops with grapefruit notes most prevalent. Lightly hoppy mouthfeel, with some grapefruit again, as well as a faint metallic finish. Many similar flavours to Heritage’s superior Scotch Irish Sgt. Major’s IPA, though with less complexity in the body and a shorter finish. Not really a dunkel, seems more like a light bodied pale ale or something. If you’re going in thinking "dunkel" you might be disappointed, but if you have an open mind, you may be pleasantly surprised with what you find here.

Clear, dark amber color, no head, slight lace. Decent aroma with accents on maltiness slightly hoppy. Coffee / Chocolate presence with a hint of smoke flavor with smooth, lasting aftertaste. Nice finish, well rounded. Mealy consistency as mouthfeel. Not my style, but still virtuous.

Bouteille 341 ml. 4.5%. Couleur rousse assez claire. Arômes de malt et caramal. En bouche, assez mince et aqueuse. Notes de caramel, légèrement de noix et peu de malt. Correct mais décevante.

Fruity, light nutbrown color, malty, velvety, but still light-bodied. Tasted in a bottle at the brewery.

341 ml bottle from brewery, served cool in a tulip glass. Special edition brewed with fresh Hallertauer hops.

App.: Deep copper, clear, rim of off-white head. Aroma: Sweet malts, nutty, light chocolate, a little woody/vinous, some bread crust, not much in the way of hop notes. Palate: Medium body and sparse carbonation. Flav.: More of the sweet malts, nutty, a touch woody and a bit fruity, a touch of floral hops?; off-dry with very little bitterness.

I guess I should try this alongside the regular version. Not a particularly impressive brew.

Better effort than their lager, but not very innovative or different.

Pours a dark golden brown with a light white rothy head. Aromas of... I can’t place it.... doughy, but moldy.....It’s a little odd... unlike any beer I’ve had so far.... Thins may be my first dunkle and that may explain it.... Flavors of toasted malts, a slight dough and slighly smokey.... Overall, nothing to be excited about..

On tap @ Volo. Nose is candied malt, clear garnet with minimal tan head. Taste is a candied malt, reminds me of root beer, light bodied, sweet, uninspired. Where the heck are the hops?

Sweet malt, caramel aroma. Copper, medium vanilla head. Very hoppy at first, malty aftertaste, hint of orange. Quite bitter, for the style, fairly well balanced though. A good Dunkel.
