OK, so I’ve seen this bottle/brand in my store for quite awhile now. Hermitage is really hit or miss (mostly miss) but I was hankering for something new so.....

The beers strength is its appearance, and it pours out a beautiful, clear, chocolate-mahogany brown body, 1" dirty-white head with quick dissipation. Sitting there in my glass, it looks like a top-notch whiskey...looks great. But, that’s about where the goodness ends. Aroma has this odd maraschino-cherry, Sweet-Tart, fig juice, cough-syrup thing going on. It’s oddly intriguing. Flavor is pretty blech, with some odd cherry jam sweetness mixed with cider vinegar and chlorine. The odd thing is, the sweetness and acidic characters are all really toned down...watered down would be the better word. Really hard to enjoy this one, and to call it a Flemish Sour is a crime.

Bottle; color was a dark reddish brown color. Aroma was very malty, caramel and dark fruit. Taste was like a cruddy barley wine. A bit acidic, not much sour, lot of caramel and rotten fruit. Not good on most levels

Thanks to bu11zeye for sharing this bottle. Clear amber pour with an off-white head. The aroma is full of caramel and toffee with some grape and cherry notes. The flavor has some slightly tart grape notes as well as some cherries and sweet toffee malt. Medium mouthfeel and medium carbonation.

Thanks to StFun for including this in a trade. The flavor is all old prune. It’s like homebrew that turned into funk. Yuck.

Murky brown color with no head. Over ripe prune, prune juice aromas. Medium body with little co2. Watered down prune juice flavors with dark pit fruits, wet cardboard--very nasty

(22oz bomber thanks to bu11zeye) clear rich copper, fine tan bubbles. Nose of sweet/sour caramel, lightly tart, chewable vitamins, somewhat like a quad. Taste has some off flavors, weird infection, caramel, metallic. Mossy linger.

$3 bomber from bevmo consumed 9/5/11. clear. auburn color with a pale khaki head. the nose is really full of cherry fruit and cherry skin...followed by dust, cola, CO2, oxidized graininess, light vanilla and freshly pulled carrot earthy sweetness. the flavor has some vanilla, sherry, lactic and fruity tartness but nothing i could call ’sour’...also, it gets a little metallic as it warms...notes of bitter grain edges, tannic cherry skins on the finish and lingering black cherry aftertaste. it is quite malty with a fruity side note...more tart than sour and really, neither of each. body has some oomph to it but finishes clean and crisp. for $3 i really can’t complain..i guess it might be a good intro beer....weird but not absolutely terrible...yet it is all over the place and lacks dimension and nuance. 5/3/5/3/10
