The flavors are so big in this Imperial Stout, they barely fit in the bottle. The wallop of Chocolate, Black Currents & Coffee makes this one Phat Beer. Named for the large amount of hops in the recipe, this fat beer will make you jolly with each sip.

Bottle and served in my Stone IRS snifter: Pours basically opaque with a long lasting frothy beige head and outstanding lace. Big espresso vapours on the nose along with plenty of bittersweet chocolate and some dark twangy fruits, citric hops, leather, char and tobacco esters. The taste founds suit with big bitter coffee overtones and some chocolate, roast, char, and earthiness. Not really getting any of the black currents claimed on the description but more like fig cookies. Add some resiny hops and this is one BITTER Impy Stout... and almost too much even for me for I longed for the sweet chocolate that got butt violated and thrown to the curb.

Bottle split at Chriso Easter tasting, 04/04/15. Black with a decent tan swirl and edgeing. Nose is chocolate, tar, spice, dark fruit notes, liquorice. Taste comprises soy sauce, chocolate, spice, toffee fudge, dark fruit rinds. Medium + body, fine carbonation, semi drying close. Ok impy if a little basic.

ChrisOs Easter Tasting. Opaque dark brown beer, good pale tan head. Airy dark malts. A touch of paint, like it was barrel aged. Mild dry dark chocolate. Light dry finish with a dark chocolate linger. A bit chewy but okay.

Bottle at ChrisO, thanks to Fergus. It pours jet black with a decent tan head. The nose is earth roast, chocolate, mild acidity, bounty bar and salted caramel. The taste is roasted malt, earth, toast, ash, charred stuff, savoury feel and pepper with a drying finish. Medium body, moderate carbonation and foamy mouth-feel. Rather savoury... and not terribly drinkable.So-so.

Bottle share at ChrisO’s. Black, small foamy brown head. Aroma is mostly liquorice, liquorice allsorts, molasses, light chocolate. Body is medium, foamy, low carbonation. Taste is light biscuity malts, thin coffee sweets, caramel. OK, light flavour. Not an impy in my book.

500ml bottle at World of Beer, Tampa. Pitch black with a thin off white head. Aroma is charred grain, old coffee grounds and ash. Flavor is leaning on the licorice and charred malt and burnt barley spectrum. chocolate upfront and turns into tobacco leaves, charred barley and hints of licorice. Texture has a ashy texture inside a medium to fuller body. Chalky texture. No bottle daring so... Hard to know how long it sat in the cooler or if that even matters at all.

500 ml. bottle. It pours a very thick black color with a nice tan head. The aroma is thick with chocolate fudge, hints of coffee, treacle and pumpernickel bread. Maybe some light black licorice. Pretty nice as Imperial Stouts go. The flavor is rich with dark fruity fig, dates, dark bread, coffee roast, black licorice, treacle. Very complex, creamy, fruity, roasted, chocolaty and good! A good beer from Hermitage. Nice.

500ml bottle, pours black with a small head. Aroma is chocolate, hazelnut, vanilla. For a imperial stout a light medium body, texture is oily with fine, lasting carbonation. Light malt sweetness with bitter notes at the finish.

"Kinda week and one dimensional for the style, though as a beer, probably there best I’ve had to date...just can’t think of the lightish sweet brew as an imperial."
