3.7 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 BBB63 (5423) - La Porte, Indiana, USA - JAN 31, 2013Bottle and served in my Stone IRS snifter: Pours basically opaque with a long lasting frothy beige head and outstanding lace. Big espresso vapours on the nose along with plenty of bittersweet chocolate and some dark twangy fruits, citric hops, leather, char and tobacco esters. The taste founds suit with big bitter coffee overtones and some chocolate, roast, char, and earthiness. Not really getting any of the black currents claimed on the description but more like fig cookies. Add some resiny hops and this is one BITTER Impy Stout... and almost too much even for me for I longed for the sweet chocolate that got butt violated and thrown to the curb.

This is a very good stout. Potent and sweet with a roasty bitterness that’s fairly aggressive. Picked this bottle up in KC with Dave and Jess in 2012.

Black in color with a khaki head. Lots of roasted malt, some chocolate, a bit of smoke, ash, and molasses sweetness. Maybe a bit acidic, dark fruits, and earthy hops. The flavor is roasty, somewhat smokey, and a decent bit of chocolate. Sweet dark fruit, prunes, molasses, and a bit of acidity. Somewhat ashy, too.

500ml bottle from Binny’s Lincoln Park. Pours a black body with a finger-width, dense and creamy, brown head that dissipates slowly and leaves a nice lacing throughout. Aroma is black currents, dark chocolates, and plenty of coffee-roasts with a bit of a molasses sweetness as well as a slight leathery note. Flavor is similar. Heavy roasts and coffee with a good amount of dark chocolate, dark fruits and black currents, and a slight molasses note. Gets pretty dry towards the end with some leather and tobacco notes as this finishes roasty and somewhat bitter with a good amount of earthy hops. Lengthy aftertaste following a full body and a moderate carbonation. Overall, a pretty solid Imperial Stout. Big and roasty with a bunch of coffees, but well balanced with a nice dark chocolate, slight molasses, and pleasant black current/dark fruit note. Nice beer.
