MoritzF (3690), Ruhrpott, Germany Nov 2, 2005 (bottle) Darkest brown to black colour with a brown foamy medium head. Slightly sweet and heavy toasted malts aroma with caramel, dark chocolate and a whiff of hops, also coffee. Sweetbitter flavour, medium body, smooth carbonation and mouthfeel. Strong roastmalty taste that lingers into the finish with bitter chocolate, coffee and liquorice, dry and lasting hopbitter finish. Complex, excellent and perfectly rounded Schwarzbier.
Ober (276), Best, Netherlands Aug 4, 2008 At the tasting session by Joes. A clear dark amber colored beer, with a light beige head. An aroma of chocolate, coffee, toffee and burned malts. The taste of roasted malts with chocolate coffee. It’s bitter sweet. The after taste is a little bitter. A good beer. Svesse (1621), Hässelby, Sweden Aug 2, 2008 (Bottle, Pivovarsky Klub, Prague, 22 July 2008) Dark brown colour, almost black, with a frothy, pale brown head. Roasted, malty nose with notes of dark rye bread, molasses and strong black coffee. Malty, roasted taste with dark rye bread and dried fruit. Mainly dry, with a roasted, grainy finish with hints of spicy hops. Nice beer. vadersnightcap (79), Scotland Jul 17, 2008 I loved this.
eminantly drinkable yet utterly complex and compeling.
perhaps lacking a tiny bit of body and mouth feel but that is nit-picking.
Great chocolately, roasted notes with a hint of smoke.
Beutifully balanced and a great example of an underated style austone (305), Turku; Pori, Finland Jun 28, 2008 Dark ruby, almost black with a fluffy beige head.
