ABUSEDGOAT (1858), California, USA Apr 23, 2008 Golden yellow color, moderate to large head, good lacing and retention. Aroma is sugary with notes of bread, moderate grassy hops, lightly floral. Medium bodied, moderate to low bitterness with a sweet alcoholic finish, somewhat sugary. Not bad.
asedzie (410), San Francisco, California, USA Jun 3, 2008 Bottle. Pours golden with thin white head. Aroma has honey, dough, grassy hops. Flavor is sweet, sugary, slightly alcoholic, some light basement flavors, with slight herbal hop bitterness lingering in the finish along with a touch of alcohol. I liked the idea of a czech imperial pilsner and although the product itself falls just a little short of expectations, it’s still pretty good and actually is exceptional if it is held up to Euro Strong Lager standards as opposed to it’s american counterparts. AmEricanbrew (805), Left Coast, Louisiana, USA May 15, 2008 Clear gold with a fizzy head. Mild aroma of spicy black pepper and pale bready malt. Smooth medium body. Nice pale malt sweet flavor to start, with some bittersweet spicy hops kicking in at the finish to add some balance. Not too bad. jcr (796), Jasper, Indiana, USA May 7, 2008 750ml bottle. Honey sweet to the point of being cloying. Golden body with big-bubbled, white head that diminishes. The aroma presents honeycomb, alcohol, spice and caramel. The flavor is heavily sweet and lightly bitter, especially in the finish. Tastes of honey, caramel and some biscuit/grass lager/pilsner notes underneath. Medium body with slightly sticky texture. Somewhat hot alcohol finish. Way too sweet.
beerbuzzmontreal (2666), Montreal, Quebec, Canada May 7, 2008 Pours a slightly cloudy golden color with a thin white head. The aroma is very sweet, some hops, malt and wild flowers were also detected. Flavor of hops, malt, flowers and strong sweetness. The body is medium with a creamy texture and soft carbonaiton. If this is meant to be a pilsner, it’s way too sweet, it’ too bad since the hops are quite flavorfull. Glouglouburp (1852), Montreal, Quebec, Canada May 7, 2008 In short: A honeyed sweet Imperial-Pilsner (or something like that). Ok.
How: Bottle (probably a few months old) from after4ever. Thanks Tom! shared with Montreal crew
The look: Clear golden body topped by a white ring of foam.
In long: Nose is garden flowers dipped in honey. The beer is rather sweet beer with a honey cookies malt backbone, almost crunchy and somewhat sugary. Citrus notes here and there. Falls a bit short on the hopping, give it a big Saaz punch and we’d have something here. So this is a dude from a highly respected American mico (Dogfish) contributing to a Pilsner brewed in Czech Republic. As expected the result is a big fat Kind-of-Imperial-Pilsner. Not great but interesting. Let’s just hope they don’t do the same thing with meals because a deep-fried-goulash might be a bit too much for my arteries.
