2.9 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 Papsoe (21782) - Frederiksberg, DENMARK - OCT 14, 2005
UPDATED: DEC 19, 2008 (Bottle 50 cl) Comes as "Herold Bohemian Golden Lager". Fully golden, almost amber, with a small, creamy head. Very malty aroma. Fat, malty body with some rather unusual (for a lager) notes of overripe fruit and perhaps even Sherry - with a touch of nuts and a hint of smoke. Definitely not your typical pilsener profile! Rather distinct, dry bitter finish. Interesting. 111005 and 131108
3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 Braudog (4473) - Hampton, Virginia, USA - SEP 10, 2005
Believe I had this as "Herold Pils" at Brickskeller, Wash DC, 9/2/05: Clear yellow with a big airy head. Biscuity at first, but flowers out with a nice floral saaz hop sting. Great.
3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20 johndoughty (2814) - cheslyn hay, West Midlands, ENGLAND - AUG 28, 2005
Golden appearance that offered more than it delivered. Pleasant but rather mundane. Not so distinctive as some Czech pils.

Sampler from bottle at <a href=http://ratebeer.com/Place/illinois/orland-par Orland Parh, Bright golden color. A dry pils malt taste, balanced by a slightly spicy hop character. Still suffers from having to travel all the way to the States, but a nice, smooth iteration of the style.
3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 whaleman (2175) - North Wales, Pennsylvania, USA - AUG 1, 2005
Herold Zamek Breznice, 5% ABV. Clear brass-colored body with low carbonation and a fairly sudsy white head. Aroma of mild butterscotch, light toasted malt, and pineapple. Nice richness for a lager with good malt depth. Moderately hoppy, pleasantly sweet, lightly tart, and clean. Has notes of cooked apples and spice. Nice, balanced summer drinker.
3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 Dickinsonbeer (5077) - Hoboken, New Jersey, USA - JUL 6, 2005
A bit darker than expected as it was a medium to deep gold, whereas urquell and czechvar are a very pale gold. Pretty good head and some lace. Aroma is a moderatley hoppy- some faded saaz and some stale malts. This one is perhaps not as fresh as it could be. Almost has a slight skunky aroma and a bit of DMS. Flavor is more towards the malty side, but it is not like a good bready pure pils malt- more of a stale metallic malt. Mouthfeel is nice due to moderate carbonation and a nice body, but the slight age hurts this beer. Finishes dry and crisp though. I would consider this as more of a pale lager then a true czech pils.
2.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20 MoritzF (7137) - Bochum, GERMANY - JUN 27, 2005
(bottle) Deep golden colour with a medium creamy white head. Floral hoppy nose with traces of malts and honey. Breadish malty taste with a nice bitter and hoppy finish. The aroma was actually more promising than the finish.

On tap at U Zpevacku in Prague. Deep yellow gold color and a thin white head. Round flavor, with grassy malts up front but ending bitter. Take it over the 10 degree any day.
