Was delighted to discover this beer at Vinens Videns beer/wine shop in Odense. Lucky me, as this is a delectable ale with boatloads of flavor. A touch of pepper, along with cloves, some floral hops and lots and lots of unusual malt taste. Wow! It’s a helluvan ale with lots of floaty yeasty crud floating in the its opaque orange haze. Delicious.

Bottle. Hazy copper coloured with a nice, off-white head. Smooth malty aroma with hop, fruit and licorice notes. Flavour is soft and malty and ends in a great, slightly bitter, licorice finish. More, please!

Bottle, at Ol Molevitten, Aarhus, August 2005. One of my favourite Danish beers from one of my favourite Danish micros. The Amber Ale style descriptor hardly does it justice. Mid brown colour. There’s lots going on the nose and palate. There’s a juicy fruit element, a chewy malt element, there’s a soft nutty element, there’s a woody vinous element, there’s a late dash of honey (but not too intrusive) and others that I can’t quite articulate. All run through with plenty of spicy, aromatic hops. Rich, but not at all heavy and nicely clean and well defined. Balance is spot on. A definite winner.

Very dry but with a sweet note from the honey. One of the best beers from Herslev.

An Ale? Kind of special ale. Aroma and flavor is special, handbrewed? Its nice, mild, and still lots of aroma and flavor. Dark aroma, bread. Finish is mainly dry.

500ml bottle (SOPP2008, Helsinki)
Deep hazy orange. Sweet and spicy aroma, maybe juniper. Full bodied, smooth and tingly carbonation. Huge hoppy kick, some ginger, hint of grapefruit. Long hoppy finish. Solid malty body. Well balanced, but it seems to go to 11 on almost everything.

ToolHead (266) - København, DENMARK - MAY 13, 2005
50 cl bottle. Served in plastic sample cup. Hazy copper. Limited head. Pleasantly, "dark" citrusy aroma. Citrusy (orange more than lemon) flavor w/ plenty of rye and some sweetish honey notes. Beautifully balanced. Full mouthfeel. Impressive drinkability. An interesting, harmonious ale that tastes big for its modest strength. Thanks for sharing, Michael.
