Pours deep reddish brown with a light tan head. Aroma has notes of sweet malt, caramel, toffee, dried fruits and raisin. Taste is heavy sweet and light bitter with a long sweet, fruity, and a little oxidized finish. Body is full, texture is oily, carbonation is soft. to flat.

Almost black with a thin yellowy brown head. Heavy, sweet fruity tones with a sting of licorice root. Very light bitterness. I’m saving my last bottle a couple of more years to see what happens...

This is one extreme Barley Wine, and after a whole day of Barley Wine brewing this seamed like the natural end to it! It’s really heavy and full bodied and over the top, it just takes control over your whole mouth and lips, it’s really awesome. This is what I want when I drink a barley wine and I love the fact that it dares to be a bit different! Thumbs up!

Bottled. Very dark brown to ruby colour. Beige head is creamy but diminishing, leaving some lave behind. Very intense malt aroma with dark fruits and berries. Caramelized raisin notes and caramel malts. Sligthly roasted finish with a hint of chocolate. Alcohol well hidden but noticable. Sweet, almost port wine-like taste with lots of dark berries, fruits and a hint of sour chocolate. Light hoppiness. Full body and syrupy thick. Enjoyable dessert beer.

Bottled. A very dark red beer with a thin brown head. The aroma has notes of oxidation, over ripe fruits, malt, and caramel. The flavor is sweet with notes of alcohol, over ripe fruits, oxidation, caramel, malt, and bread, leading to a dry alcoholic finish. The alcohol leaves a slight burn in the throat.

Bottle (#1626/xxxx) from ØlKonsortiet at home. Pours dark mahogany with a nice head, head does not last long. Aroma is the usual suspects, figs, raisin, plum - surprisingly little alcohol. Very well balanced BW, medium dry mouthfeel, still quite bitter. A lot of the dark fruits tastes through.

Bottle at Københavnske Øldage 2009, vintage 2006, 3 years old
Very dark brown color; no head. Nice caramel aroma, a bit cheesy. Good body, strong caramel and malt flavor, correct sweetness, a late touch of chocolate, strong hopping, quite aromatic. Powerful, chocolate Barley Wine; not perfect, but good. Alcoholic and warming.

Palme (1437) - Bergen, NORWAY - AUG 15, 2011
0.5l bottle #2072. This heavyweight barley wine pours a deep deep brown - almost black body with a small fading light tanned bubbly head. It’s aroma is quite caramel sweet, tar and peat notes, some wood and some hints of chocolate. A really intense and concentrated aroma on this big boy! It has a really sticky mouthfeeling, soft carbonation and it’s really warming and full-bodied. Tastes sweet with some dark caramel, notes of wood, tobacco, chocolate, dark alcohol (yeah that’s a real thing) and it ends really warming with a longasting sweet and almost cocoa-like aftertaste. Strong and powerful, still really nicely balanced and really good! Will pop another in a year or two to see how this beer from 2006 will develop.

larsga (4681) - Oslo, NORWAY - JUL 24, 2011
Small yellowish beige head. Deep dark red body with strong carbonation. Deep earthy strawberry and wood aroma with floral caramelly butterscotch notes. Dry-sweet roasty earthy alcoholic taste with chocolatey resiny notes. Mild, soft, smooth mouthfeel. Full-bodied. Dryish roasty caramelly sherry aftertaste with minty earthy alcoholic cocos notes. Very very nice. (0.5l bottle, wine monopoly Vika, Oslo. 2006 vintage.)
