3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 espenra (665) - Kurland, NORWAY - DEC 27, 2011
50cl bottle from Vinmonpolet. Best before 2012-06-24. Batch 493. Poured a brown colour with a red hue and a huge foamy head that settled down fast. Aroma is sweet with notes of spices (anis and coriander) and malts. The belgian yeast is also present. Flavour is also spicy. The malts really come out and play around with the belgian yeast again as well as some sugar and syrup. Not as much spices in the flavour compared to the aroma which was a bit disappointing, but they are present. Mostly the anis. Hints of liqorice. A decent beer, but neither a good winter ale or a belgian strong ale. It’s just not a good mix of these two styles.
3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 esp0r (803) - NORWAY - DEC 24, 2011
Bottle enjoyed at home
Dark brown, thin beige head. Smells powerfully of anis, also some caramel and malts. Taste is quite one dimentional and malty, good sweetness. Dry on the palate, nice malt bitterness. Ok beer, but forgettable
3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 POLK (1627) - Hørning, DENMARK - DEC 16, 2011
100509: Slightly spicy scent (oddly enough, not anise). Sweet, heavy and strong spicy taste - slightly sharp taste both because alc. and the spices. It is important to say, that despite the scary name, it does not taste very much of anise. The flavor reminiscent of Belgian strong ale. Alcohol, spices and sweetness combine to make this a very good beer. But it would be better if it was a little less alcohol i think.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 Palme (1437) - Bergen, NORWAY - DEC 1, 2011
0.5l bottle. This one pours a deep brown body with a red hue and a mild brown fading head. The aroma has nice spicy tones, lots of sweet caramel, sweet raisin, caramel malts and a licorice-anise spicy hint. Quite complex and not bad. Average carbonation level, full-bodied, warming with a nice rich and oily mouthfeel. Spicy and sweet flavors; lots of caramel and anise, licorice touches blended with milk chocolate and a nutty snickers-like flavors. Nuts and fudge perhaps? Ends really warming with a long and spicy aftertaste. Good stuff!
3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 phredrik (887) - Aalborg, DENMARK - NOV 19, 2011
Dark amber pour with a nice tanned head. Aroma is strong on estery yeast notes, dark fruits, especially figs stand out very clearly, burnt caramel, spicy notes of anise, clove and cinnamon. The taste is very nicely balanced. Very sweet and estery, still has the figs and caramel, a slightly roasted note from the malts, some breadiness like rye bread. Also slightly spicy, anise cinnamon and cocoa. One of the bet danish Christmas beers I can think of.
