2007 version Good, very dense light-beige head, fast reduced to a rim above the deep brown opaque beer. Glue, solvent, sweet malts & chocolate: sharper notes upon something that could have well originated in the Ardennes. Spices and pineneedles, but blending in. Sweet-bitterish/spicy. Again very Walloon. Spices are present again, but I find it difficult to name them, which is a good thing (for the beer). Yeasty esters. Warming up, especially liquorice, restrained coriander, and dill (rather than anise) come up, chocolate-like sweetness remaining. Medium to well-bodied, alcohol peeping through. Way better than the first version (which I had infected, anyway). This might be the Danish Fantôme, maybe?

Bottle, 2005. Pours hazy and brown with a nice beige head. Nose of anis and orange fruit. Malty and sweet flavour with anis, coreander and citrus fruit. Medium bodied. Could be more spicy as a traditional Christmas beer. A nice brew and well balanced too.

I had a terrible bottle of the 2004 version, it was infected and quite awful. But now in December 2006 I had gathered enough courage to buy it again, and I’m glad I did. It’s dark mahogany with a red hue and a creamy head. The aroma has notes of yeast, roasted malt, anise, licorice, coriander and the flavour has notes of roasted malt, light caramel sweetness, anise, coriander, licorice, alcohol and a nice bitterness. A nice surprise, and I’m glad to erase the memory of version 2004 from my mind... 1780

Draught at Ölbaren, Copenhagen. Deep amber with a creamy, off-white head. Flowery citrus and perfume. Sweet maltiness. Thick an oily palate with malty fruitiness. A bit too sweet; almost sugary.

Tasted 207-11-16. Fresh bottle, 50cl. Pours a hazy, dark, reddish, toffee color with beige head. Hoppy aroma with notes of mandarin and cookies. Flavours count primarily hops and alcohol, but well balanced IMO. I also get caramel and a bit of a nutty aftertaste. It’s good! I wonder if there’s more behind the alcohol and hops than meets the taste buds!?! Maybe I’ll age a bottle just out of curiosity.

Fad. Udemærket julebryg, der godt kunne "spille" lidt mere med musklerne i betragtning af de 9 %. Dette gør den særdeles drikbar men heller ikke mere. Klassisk belgisk stil.

<draught at Ølbaren> Brown look with a fine light brown head. Aroma of caramel malts and nuts along with anis. Full and potent body, but with a pretty uninteresting flavor, atleast that how i felt about it at the time after tasting a few other heavy christmasbrews. Flavor is sweet malty, like a brown ale, but with some fruity notes. Have to try it with clean tastebuds sometime i guess.

Bottel.50cl. Drank it at the brewery, Cascade sweet aroma, refined malty taste with good hop bitterness.
