COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION

<draught at Ølbaren> Brown look with a fine light brown head. Aroma of caramel malts and nuts along with anis. Full and potent body, but with a pretty uninteresting flavor, atleast that how i felt about it at the time after tasting a few other heavy christmasbrews. Flavor is sweet malty, like a brown ale, but with some fruity notes. Have to try it with clean tastebuds sometime i guess.

Courtesy boboski. Pours a hazy, murky brown wit ha small light bubbly brown head. Really unique interesting smell, olive juice, spices, a little caramel, and dark malts. The taste is light on the carbonation, a little sweet, kind of tastes like a barleywine. Some caramel and light tartness to it. It still drinks pretty smooth with a little funk in the finish. Interesting, but pretty good.

Courtesy boboski. 2007. Ugly, hazy, multi-brown topped by a ring of tan bubbles. Nose of fresh tobacco, gingerbread spice, earthy funk, licorice, malt vinegar- strange nose, intriguing. Flavor is tart, tons of caramel, bready and airy yeast, spiciness, rich malt, and a dry, tart finish. Medium/full body, balanced carbonation. Very easy to drink considering all it has going on. Strange brew. Enjoyed it, but won’t be searching too hard for another.

Body is a very cloudy, muddy brown with yellow and tan swirls, totally opaque. A thin, dirty tan head slowly and mostly recedes. Odd in appearance, but looks hearty and well crafted nonetheless. The aroma is startling. Mustard greens, dried cherries, olive tapenade, moderate alcohol. Bold yeastiness with a dash of funk noted. Star anise, dates and other dark and dense earthy-type fruits are also noted, a touch of apricot. This gets stranger with each whiff. There is a good amount of toasted grains present which bring some balance to an otherwise off-kilter nose. Sharp caramel and tart yeast are noticed first in the flavor. Is this a conglomeration of the previously sensed nuances in the nose, or did De Dolle get a hold of this recipe and blend it with a Danish barleywine? This is wacky. Alcohol is everpresent in the flavor, drying the mouth out late after each sip. Stale lemony acidity is a prelude to a syrupy finish, which is quite dry but is also fully sticky. Light to medium in carbonation, medium-full bodied. Yet another unique beer from Herslev, I dig this brewery. One extra point given to the overall score for incredible uniqueness employed while maintaining good general drinkability.

Cletus (6329) - Connecticut, USA - APR 26, 2007
Bottle courtesy of Henrikb. Pours ruby red with a tan head. Smells of anise, coriander, soap, metallic, cumin, some misc. spices, some cherry like elements. Tastes of dark chocolate, sweet malt, lots of spicy elements, some nuttiness and dark fruit. Mouthfeel is nutty with an herbal green finish and some metallic notes. This reminded me of a dubbel very much.

Bottle, bryg 3. Anis and orange fruit in the aroma. Malty sweet flavor with anis, orange peels and coreander. Hops are restricted to the background, although noticeable. Somewhat sugary. Mango. Powerful and tasty beer, although a bit too sweet, but the balance is good and the alcohol is well hidden.

50 cl bottle. Yeast at the bottom. Dark brown colour with a little weak white head. Malty aroma with notes of caramel and hints of yeast and anis-spice. Nice mouthfeel of malt and spices. Little carbonation and hard to find the 9 % alcohol.
