Hertenheer was initially brewed at Hofbrouwerijke but due to the success, the beer is then brewed in larger quantities at the Scheldebrouwerij and now, according to the label, at Anders in Halen. Also the recipy has slightly changed.

Tap at Beer Circus. Sweet, bitter, some lemon, meh. Nest just doesn’t do it for me, all their beers are mediocre at most.

When I first opened the glass bottle it was rather stinky. Like sulfur. But after I let it breathe a bit and poured it into a glass the aroma actually blossomed and was quite nice. Very fruity, much like a breakfast cereal. Had it stayed the way it originally smelled I’d of rated the aroma only a 1. In the end, it gets a 9. What a transition!!!!!! Cloudy orange/yellow pour with a fluffy white head. Head lasts a bit, ample lacing on the glass. This in no way tastes like it smells. Dry, bitter, and flat. Finish is quick and slightly bitter. This is a very complex and highly unusual beer! One of the most unique I’ve ever had. I can’t guarantee you’ll like it, but I implore you to at least try it!

Bottle from Julios Hazy copper with big brown floating chunks of dead yeast lasting head. Cardbaord and bandaind and caramel and spice aroma. Toasted caramel peachy fruit with almost astringent herbal bitterness that lingers. Medium body fairly soft. Old or something, not good.

Bottled@Take One, Maastricht. Hazy orange colour, small white head. aroma is wood, some floral and fruity notes along with some mild spices. Flavour is fruity, floral, some toffeeish notes along with mild yeast and spices. In a way quite simplistic, but still pleasant to drink and quite straight forward brew.

330 ml. bottle sampled @ home. Purchased @ ALBO. I have tried the ’t Hofbrouwerijke way back in 2011. That was way back in my early RB days, post my first beer festival. I remember finding it rather dull & non-deScript. Hazy golden, collapsing fluffy creamy egg-white head. Nose is big on esters, faintly phenolic, quite a bit of sulfur, faint rubber, touch rotting bubblegum yeast. Very Belgian & very blond. Taste is strong lingering plastic bitterness with bubblegum & banana yeast, oodles of plastic bitterness, lightly phenolic, white pepper, not the biggest fan of this kind of bitterness, floral hop & plastic hop bitter, light American Cheese, white bread, light alcohol in the back. High carbonation & plastic body. Bitter yeast but just a strong plastic bitterness with an overly Belgian base / quality overall. Okay for the style but a bit too far in the esters & alcohol genre of Belgian beers for my liking. Touch above average for what it is.
