Hertenheer was initially brewed at Hofbrouwerijke but due to the success, the beer is then brewed in larger quantities at the Scheldebrouwerij and now, according to the label, at Anders in Halen. Also the recipy has slightly changed.

Aroma of light malt, fruits, peach, yeast, floral notes, spicy notes, hops. Flavour is slightly tart and rather bitter, especially for this Belgian style ale. Enjoyable beer.

Bottle from de Bierschuur in Poppel. The beer has a golden/yellow color and a large white head, with a lot of bubbles. In the aroma clear tones of hops, citrus fruits, yeast and malts. The taste is little watery but also a little sweet. In the taste the tones from the aroma come clearly forward. The finish changes from light sweet to a nice and strong bitterness which is long noticable. Shame it’s a little watery, but further it’s a nice ale.

Whole Foods, Bowery NYC, 11.2 ounce ($5): Pours golden with a white head. Aroma is grain, hops, grass, and some yeast. This beer is certainly hoppier and more bitter than your average Belgian ale. The hoppiness is very European, kind of like a pilsner. Unfortunately, I could not finish this because my drink spilled. Alas.

Amber with fluffy white head. Smells are honey, grass and multigrain bread. Taste is honey sweet straight up, grassy, grainy and bitter and dry in the finish. Medium bodied, prickly on the tongue from the carbonation. Not bad.

Wat een mooi bier dit. Mooie kleur flinke witte schuimkraag. Aangenaam bouquette, fijne zoete smaak en beetje bitter op de nasmaak.

Bottle 33cl. Hazy golden colour with a firm white top. Aroma not very special, some sweetness and fruits. Taste is very bitter, especially the aftertaste. I like it, but I can imagine there will be people who find it a bit too much.

33cl Bottle from Prik&Tik Pauwels. Brewed at Anders according to the label. Hazy deep golden colour, white head. Aroma of cooked apples, malts, yeast, fruity, light spicy. Smells like an aged blond beer. Flavour is sweet, old, yeasty, fruity, cooked apples, sugar, decent hoppy bitter finish. Light-bodied, oily mouthfeel. Smells and tastes old. Didn’t really like it.
