Hertenheer was initially brewed at Hofbrouwerijke but due to the success, the beer is now brewed in larger quantities at the Scheldebrouwerij. Also the recipy has slightly changed.

Bottle from Beer Revolution. Pours murky amber with a thick off-white head and a banana aroma. There is a bitter caramel malt flavor with lots of banana ester and a dry finish.

Bottle. Head is initially large, frothy/creamy, white, mostly lasting. Body is dark yellow. Aroma is lightly malty (toasted grain), lightly to moderately hoppy (flowers, herbs), lightly yeasty (cobwebs), with notes of Juicy Fruit gum, banana, honey, spearmint, banana. Flavor is heavily sweet, lightly acidic, lightly bitter. Finish is moderately sweet, lightly acidic, moderately bitter. Medium body, syrupy/creamy texture, lively carbonation, lightly alcoholic. The aroma is quite nice (just a bit too much in the banana-gum direction) and it looks great, but alas, it’s almost undrinkably sweet. Cloying syrupy sugars come on strong as soon as it hits your tongue and linger long into the finish.

Bottle from Star Grocery in Berkeley, CA. Pours light amber with a creamy/fizzy head. Aroma of noble hop over sweet caramel with a hint of yeast/spice. Med body. Flavor is yeast/spice, tho not much banana ester. It’s a little earthy, moderately bitter and suggests astringency. As I continue it seems to get ever more bitter. Certainly drinkable.

(Bottled, BBE 10/2013) Hazy golden with a small, lasting and lacy head. Mild aroma of peachy-creamy fruitiness. Flavor is quite bitter and herby-hoppy - like a hoppy pils with creamy-peachy tripel mixed 50/50. Also quite strong red currant presence. Medium body, reasonably refreshing palate, but pretty high CO2 level. Feels too Danish for my taste, I prefer the original Belgian styles :). 3625
