3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 imdownthepub (7171) - Banbury, - NOV 3, 2009
Bottled, 500ml clay coated bottle with cork & cage. Dark brown, ruby hue with white head. Dark and sweet malty notes right at the stert, quite fruity, prunes with touches of earthy yeast. Honeyed and full, but not the most interesting beer, it lacks bitterness. Still drinkable though.
4.2 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20 Panzerfaust (462) - Hanga Roa, Easter Island, CHILE - DEC 1, 2011
Big 50 cl ceramic bottle, 7.3% alcohol.
Pours a reddish brown that turns to ruby red against strong light. Head is rather big and off-white, diminishing slowly.
Aroma is fantastic and enticing. Strong malty and fruity aroma with a liquorish touch. Notes of walnuts, ripe cherries, cognac, nougat and brown sugar.
Flavor is sweet and beautiful, nutty with a warming alcoholic note. Some spices come through in the finish leaving a fine aftertaste.
Medium to big body, low carbonation. The alcohol is well integrated into the mix although some may think it is a little excessive.
A wonderful, rounded dutch Dubbel. It holds its own against monstrous Dubbels like Westmalle or Chimay Rouge.

Had a 500ml cork stone bottle. A lot of pressure on the cork, gives a loud pop. Aroma has some malts and yeast in a spicey way. Colour is dark brown with a strong, beige head. Taste has lots of earthy malts and hints of caramel in the start, finished of by a pleasant hoppy bitterness. Quite bitter for a dubbel, but I do drank an almost expired bottle.
