300ml bottle. Dark amber body, tanned head. Aroma has caramelly and bready malt notes, Dark fruits with some yeast notes too. Very well balanced. Hint of chocolate. Medium body, oily and slick texture. Long aftertaste. Very sweet caramelly taste, some alcohol in taste too.

(Rating #2993)

Botttle from the Deen market in Volendam. Pours very dark copper with a foamy beige head. Aroma of darker fruits - like dates and raisins. Medium body with foamy carbonation. Rather cooked fruit and a touch of chocolate for flavor. Definitely on the bitter side. Surprisingly good, considering it came from a supermarket.

My Bottom Line:
Dried cherries, licorice and caramel quickly delve into earthy, wooden hoppiness until this Belgian-style Strong Ale is concluded by surprising dryness.

Further Personal Perceptions:
-A sheet of foam laces around the nearly clear mahogany.
-That nose is quite reminiscent of a Gouden Carolus Classic.
-The definite black grape character is quite "Welch’s" like, which is not really appreciated.
-There sure are lots of added sugars in here...
-Light tartness accompanies the wooden finish.

On tap at Arendsnest 8/26/09: Pours a mostly opaque dark mahogany with a stringy-lacing off-white head. Has a sweet dark caramely malty nose with a touch of raisins. Starts with good dark malty sweetness with a touch of bready yeast and toasty caramel before a drier cookie dough finish and a touch of warmth. A pretty enjoyable dark Belgian (Dutch) strong ale.

Pours out medium brown with a dense white head that lasts. Aroma suggest tiny portion of ginger, vanilla, and overwhelmingly; brown sugar. Taste is sweet with no sign of bitterness anywhere. Alcohol content is well hidden, it does not jump out, even though one can feel that it’s a strong beer. It’s smooth, and even though it’s too sweet for my taste, I think this is an OK beer for a commercial product.

Bottled 50cl. Ordered from www.bierzwerg.de. The nose is mainly of caramel and bubblegum. Sweet. Yeasty finish which is reminiscent of white grapes. Not all that good.

UPDATED: FEB 6, 2011 Dark, licorish with next to no foam. Almost no smell. too much alcohol for the strange taste and too fluid body. You may skip this. Update: second tasting was much better. Served warmer the aroma spread caramel and cereal. Taste sweet with apple. Still a weird palate, though.

Sweet smell, not very alcoholic but still warm. Palate is very nice. Had this in a very nice big 75cl bottle.
