30cl bottle, pours a dark red with a lasting fine tan head. Nose is burnt caramel, tart red fruit and a touch of earthy wood, body is rich and syrupy at first, swiftly turning dry-bitter and faintly tart with plum notes. An alcohol warmth joins lingering dry-bitterness and candy sugar in the finish.

Classic Dutch ’massive ale’, dark, with malty profile, candied fruits, explicitly sweet taste, bit cloying even, yeasty, agreeable spicy notes, quite complex, warming finish. I liked this years ago but I’m not sure how it evolved since then, viewing the fact that Arcense is owned by AB InBev - time for a re-rate.

Bottle sample at a tasting at our place. Thanks vipinvelp. Clear brown with quickly dissolving beige ring. Malt, some dark fruit and a little spice aroma, but mainly malt. Heavy, sweet and a little fruity finish, carbonated.

One of the, if not the, best beers I’ve ever tasted in my life. Dark and sweet beer with tastes of caramel.

Deep red with small tan head. Aroma is raisins, red fruit, caramel, vanilla and spice. Slick, fruity and sticky palate with low carbonation. Aftertaste is round red fruit, caramel, floral, cherry and lingering spicy alcohol. Overall: Well done! Its like Cuvee van de keizers younger brother. I especially liked the low carbonation.

Dark brown colour, off-white head that quickly disappears. Nose and taste are big on sweet and dried fruits (figs, dates, raisins), vanilla and roasted malts with some coffee, liquorice and chocolate. Wine-like aftertaste: fruity, a bit acidic and bitter and dry. Soft and oily mouthfeel, low carbonation, good body (but could be a bit bolder).
