Nice overall, but a few strange quirks. Perhaps a bit too sweet, not much aroma at first.

Bottle, thank you very much jbrus. Warm rusty red with little tan head. Smells sweet with caramel, flan, and custard aromas. Low carbonation, good quaffable body. Interesting flavor profile with slightly chalky finish. Sweetness does not become cloying. Is nuanced. Quote Oakes "A Dutch take on an old ale" suits it perfectly-mature, solid, with strong Dutch character!

Bottle 30cl. Pours a murky brown colour with almost no head and a small amount of carbonation. Smell is grassy and also very much like a dubbel beer, sweet and bitter mixed greatly. Taste is very good and clean, clearly some malts and hops there with some vague fruits. Goes down very nice, no trace of the alcohol.

This tastes too much like red wine for my taste. Someone who likes their beer to taste like dark fruits might enjoy this, but it’s not for me.

Bottle. Ruby red with a brown layer. Light dusty wooden port and grape aroma. Sweet sugar base, wood, cherries, raisins, dry tannin notes, tilts into the molassis, lingering barrique notes. Medium body with a dry mouthfeel, sticky afterwards.

Dark, small head. Sweet with a strong taste of alcohol. There are some nice desireable romas, but all the alcohol sort of take away the interest.

<i<Bottled. Clear ruby, small creamy head. Raisiny madeira aroma. Sweet and sticky with roasty, chewy malt covered by some bubblegum esters and raspberry brandy. Towards the finish without bitterness it akll drowns in sweetness. More power than depth.

My wife bought me a Hertog Jan sample pack of 6 beers. I had never had them before this and I have to say the Grand Pretige was a suprising stand-out beer that really opened my eyes. It’s so easy to drink but FULL of great flavor. I lucked out because the sample pack contained 2. I suggest trying this.
