10% ABV Wheaty nose that blooms and broadens developing aromatics of plum, dried honey dates and lilies. Flat to medium head. Ebony hued; dark caramel when held up to the light. A very inviting and promising color for a quad. The first mouthfeel is subtly carbonated and hefty. The syrupy caramelized flavors are nicely rounded off resulting in a finish that is balanced without the harsh bitterness of burnt toast or immature hops. Heavy. Should be enjoyed slowly and sipped Definitely to be had ice cold, but develops interesting fruity dimensions after being allowed to oxidize and breathe a little at room temperature. Chalice drinking vessel is perfect.

Marrom, quase opaca. Espuma rala de curta duração. Aroma e sabor de mel, ameixas, caramelo e café, tendo alguma acidez no sabor. Adocicada, álcool perceptível. Retrogosto ácido de final alcoólico.

The style of this beer is a barley wine instead of a quadrupel according tot the bottle aroma faint color Ruby dark, little foam and clear taste alcohol, relatively full some caramel missing some body, intensity and complexity it a fine drink though and i will certainty buy it again

Aromas a malta tostada, caramelo y manzana.

Shared bottle. Dark brown with medium sized ran head. Lots of marzipan, red apple, bubblegum, spices, gingerbread, brown sugar. Like my mothers apple pie... Very boozy. Very sweet with alcoholic bitter finish. Full bodied. Better then I expected, especially for a beer that needs artificial coloring. Still a nasty alcoholic mess though.

330ml Bottle at Arendsnest Proeflokaal, Amsterdam (€4.50):
I wasn’t sure about this one straight off the bat but it certainly grew on me, perhaps it was the 10% alcohol content finally catching up with me but the beer was a well-balanced one with some nice touches of sweetness that helped it go down easier than it should have. Despite not being a beer that is really going to stand out from the crowd, Hertog Jan Grand Prestige is a very pleasant & highly drinkable offering that is well worth trying at least once but I’m not sure it’s one that would warrant a second visit.

Quite a let-down. It is a Quadrupel with a rather bitter, hazel-like aroma. It isn’t as rich and complicated as one might expect from a Quadrupel with this kind of alcohol percentage.
