COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION

UPDATED: NOV 12, 2013 Tastes very nice. Smell is pretty neutral. Tastes Sweet and good, very balanced, but a bit "hollow". Misses the pannepot depth. Good beer. Nice and dark and good sweet smell.Updated: a couple of days later I had a 1993 bottle at my sister in law?s birthday, totally awesome!

Iíve been in the beer basement of Hertog Jan today in Arcen. Had a 2013 sample of the final 75cl bottle, pretty ok but nothing impressive. However, we had the great opportunity to share a bottle of 2005 that has been in the basement for so long. I already heard that the taste would be like a wine/port and so it was. Smelled just like a red wine, very warm and strong! Tasted, WONDERFUL, top of the bill for sure. Thereís definately a good signature of beer in there, but itís transformated into a more full, warm red winey flavour. If this would be a freshly beer that was easy to get, I think it would be leading the scores of this whole website (even better than rochefort, st bernardus abt, rochefort 10 which Iíve tasted multiple times). So if you can get this somewhere, take a couple of bottles and hold it for at least 5-10 years. I will never forget this beer!

Pours mahogany with a thin tan head. Caramel and dark fruit. The alcohol isnít exactly hidden but also doesnít detract.

30cl bottle at home. Hazy brown with a small beige head. Full body with moderate carbonation. Sweet with some bitter hints. Caramel, herbs, roasted malts and spices. Not too alcoholic. A decent full flavoured beer.

Pours a dark red/brown with a beige head. Aroma of dark fruits, raisins, some caramel. Big sweet flavor, surprisingly the relatively high alcohol content doesnít really surface that much. The best brew from Hertog Jan.

UPDATED: OCT 27, 2013 Lekker donker bier met een goede volle smaak eraan. Drinkt bijzonder aangenaam ondanks de 10% alcohol.

Bottle 30cl. Pours a small off-white head that vanishes immediately. Ruby appearance. Yeasty, malty aroma with hints of nuts, dark fruits and a little hops, nothing special so far. More malty and earthy taste, but everything is overwhelmed by the alcohol that almost burns through your tongue. Whatís this?! Beer isnít supposed to do that! The body is also not what I would call good, but itís not bad either. Average quad.

Diep donkerrode kleur met aardig schuim. Ruikt niet zoveel. Iets mout en caramel. Smaakt behoorlijk zoet, alcohol.

The strong taste of a quadrupel and the drinkability of a dubbel, this beer comes as one of the most special Belgian beers. For cap collectors: a black and gold cap with a gothic "H" black letter in a golden shield, and "Grand Prestige" in white letters.
