COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION

75 cl bottle, brewed in 2012, consumed in the same year. Deep brown colour, rocky white head, not-adhesive (probably due my glass). Aromas of dark fruits, caramel, sweet malts. Taste is delicious: sweet, dark fruits, overwhelmed by an alcohol flavour. Long sweet and fruity finish. To my opinion a bit immature flavours. Planning to place some bottles in stock and drink them in a few years. To be continued..

On tap at Asgard. Dark reddish brown with a off-white head. Aroma of sweet malts, dark fruits and alcohol. Taste is sweet malty, sweet aftertaste with warming alcohol. Not bad.

Average quadrupel, without any remarkable fact. Slightly unbalanced to sweet, almost sticky. Strange vinegar touch, strange. You can taste it, but for sure you’ll not repeat.

Pression à Rotterdam. Cuivrée-brune, forte mais l’alcool ne se ressent pas trop

Aroma: Medium-high toasty. Medium, banana bread. Medium sweetness. Dark fruit. Light Marmite, chocolate. Light phenolics (medicinal). Appearance: Clear, dark amber body. Almost no head, tan head on pour. Flavour: Medium-high alcohol, but floral and peppery. Medium-high sweetness. Light bitterness. Medium-light banana. Dry finish, lingering marmite and warming. Alcoholic bite. Mouthfeel: Medium warming. Full body, Medium-low carbonation. Overall: Good aroma, but the medicinal should not be there. The finish is too dry. Still a drinkable beer. 500 ml bottle, poured. 18E. Belgian Dark Strong Ale

Bottle at home. One of the stronger beers that is widely available in my country. Thee label indicates it’s a ’gerstenwijn’ - meaning barley wine in Dutch. In reality it’s more a strong dark abbey ale. For me it’s a benchmark beer, one to compare similar style beers to. Appearance is dark brown/red, still pretty clear and transparent. Nose is sweet malts, caramel, hay, blue and red berries, raisins, hints of sourness and yeast. Taste is very similar. Really no bitterness in this one. Body is full, almost no carbonation. Taste gets more refined when the beer warms up a bit. Finish is sweet and sour notes, no long aftertaste unfortunately. Excellent beer.

Bottle from Liquor Mountain, shared by Tadg. Brown sugar nose, fumes. Dark brown color, ruby edges. Super sweet initial, concentrated fruit, prunes, raisins, all flavors flatten out quickly. Medium body. Very thin for a ten-percenter. Sweetness is near cloying.

(50 cl ceramic bottle from Irma Axelborg; BBD: couldn’t find but the product code is 04/14:53 024) Poured into a Rochefort goblet. Reveals a clear dark copper body with nice tan head that initially is about one finger thick but sadly dissipates almost instantly leaving only a thin film with small islands and some decent lace on the side of the glass. Aroma is banana and caramel. Oily texture, soft carbonation, full body and a sweet finish. Flavour has more caramel and the sweetness masks the alcohol to some extent There’s an additional perfumed quality to the flavour a bit like brown sugar or something. It’s alright but I would have appreciated more complexity in the malt profile and it’s quite a pity the head disappeared so quickly.

Deep dark colour with some ruby / garnet tinges. Short lasting yellowish white head with mild carbonation. Deep malts and chocolates with plum / sweetish notes. Nice alcohol warming effect on back palate. Beer lighter in body than expected but definitely a "drink again" beer.
