COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION

High alcohol percentage, great full taste, must be poured into the original Geand prestige glass. One of THE BEST beers in the world!

I’ve been in the beer basement of Hertog Jan today in Arcen. Had a 2013 sample of the final 75cl bottle, pretty ok but nothing impressive. However, we had the great opportunity to share a bottle of 2005 that has been in the basement for so long. I already heard that the taste would be like a wine/port and so it was. Smelled just like a red wine, very warm and strong! Tasted, WONDERFUL, top of the bill for sure. There’s definately a good signature of beer in there, but it’s transformated into a more full, warm red winey flavour. If this would be a freshly beer that was easy to get, I think it would be leading the scores of this whole website (even better than rochefort, st bernardus abt, rochefort 10 which I’ve tasted multiple times). So if you can get this somewhere, take a couple of bottles and hold it for at least 5-10 years. I will never forget this beer!

Flavourful and dynamic. Slightly flat compared to Belgians but still a very worthy experience.

UPDATED: JAN 13, 2009 Rating reflects fairly aged (> 5 years) sample. Dark brown coloured, small brown head. Very complex nose, vinous, roasted malts, raisins, even port-notes. Sweet but complex flavour, liqourice, malts. Lasting finish. Reminiscent of Cuvee van de Keizer Blauw. Perhaps a bit overly sweet and one dimensional when fresh, but when aged this beer is absolutely magnificent.

It is told that this beer gets better if you store it for at least a year. I guess the beer deserves it. But its far to tasty to leave it alone for such a long time.

Dark ruby in color, low level of CO2, light amber head, kind of mousse. Complex dark fruits, raisins, fog, grapes, plums, in aroma and flavor. Something winy. Hop aroma, flavor and bitterness is very low. It has 10% alcohol but it is not extreme. Love this beer, it has drinkability an it is complex. Will have this Quad again.

AROMA: port, bread, woody, dark fruits, resin APPEARANCE: brown, clear, frothy, TASTE: light sweetness, medium bitterness, lightly sour, PALATE: medium body, oily feel, average carbonation, bitter, long finish, OVERALL: a fantastic quadrupel that hides completely the alcohol; the port aromas blend well with the hop and bitternes.
