COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION

UPDATED: JAN 25, 2015 Dark amber, somewhat ruby red colour with a fading bit tan head. On the nose aromas of ripe banana, plumb and caramel, some earthy notes develop. Nice ripe fruit flavours, with light fizzyness and an oily texture, chewy, full bodied beer. Medium to heavy sweetness. Finish is long and balanced.

Quite a let-down. It is a Quadrupel with a rather bitter, hazel-like aroma. It isn’t as rich and complicated as one might expect from a Quadrupel with this kind of alcohol percentage.

750ml ceramic bottle - shared by ElviraS - thanks
Pleasant slightly bananaey belgian aroma. Nice deep orange, brief head. Full sweet palate, some nice biting bitter hops, a bit extracty and thin. Some almondy sticky esters, anna describes it as gluey, but it’s no saying quite 10%. Pretty classic over-produced Belgian, has the InBev fingerprint definitely. Sells itself as being more than it really is. Even though I don’t like InBev, I did quite like the beer.

Oct. ’14. A 0.75 l bottle (2009 vintage), thanks to Borresteijn who gave it to Marko and me! It poured hazy copper brown body with quite a small head. Strong alcohol presence in the aroma. Other than that, I got caramel and some rusty notes mixed with raisins. Flavor was lightly bitter at first, from alcohol bite, then fine sweetish malt came into the focus, dried fruits, caramel and brown sugar. Less complex actually than expected from an aged ale. Oxidation (metallic note) was still present, unfortunately. Since it’s heavy, body was rather full, but long finish omitted, emphasized only some light but pleasant sweeter caramel. Warming for sure. Although not bad, didn’t impress me for a Belgian-style ale; if it’s truly a quadruple, even worse.

Beautiful dark colour. When seen in plenty of light, you see the beautiful dark reddish brown colour. When pouring the beer, a little layer of brownish foam appears. This disappears quite quick, leaving almost no foam. The smell is delicious: a deep, sweet fruity smell. You can smell grapes and some alcohol. The smell is similar to the smell of a good, red dessert wine. The beer tastes different from the smell. Were the smell is very sweet, the taste is less sweet and more bitter. If you inhale trough the nose at the same moment you take a sip, smell and taste are in perfect harmony. The taste is very complex. There are some touches of caramel and toffee. The taste is quite perfect. Only the finish could have been better. The bitternes predominates the finish. I wish there would be more of the caramel and toffee.

75 cl.

(2013) This is a grand beer. Big punchy raisin sweet upfront and a light bitter carry to a finish that is tinged with alcohol astringent. I would have thought it’d have more body, so either not aged well, or not stored well? Aside though I’m really enjoying the big flavours and the easy drinking that this brings.

Aroma licoroso, chega a lembrar vinho doce, uva passa, muito gostoso. Espuma densa e duradoura.
