Hertog Jan is a brand for beer lovers with an appreciation of natural, tasteful beer. This is a fruity aromatic bottom-fermented pils characterised by a golden color, full body and pleasantly bitter aftertaste. It should be served at 4 to 6C (39 to 43F).

Can. (as HJ Natuurzuiver Bier) Pours a clear, a bit pale golden with a quite lively carbonation and a nice, dense white head. It diminishes a rather quickly, but leaves some lacings. Quite clean but weak aroma with malt, hops and some fruit, both peach and yellow apples. Fruity flavor, a bit too fruity in my opinion, with malt, hay and grain in the background. Thin to medium body and a slightly fruity and bitter finish with a tiny metallic note as well. A decent and quite refreshing pilsner. (070405)

Bottled, 033 cl. Dark golden color, quickly dimishing thin head. Malty Aroma, with sweetness on the side. Nice pilsener, not the standard Dutch chemical shit.

UPDATED: MAR 5, 2009 Can. Clear, a little bit dark golden body with a dense white head. A little caramel malt aroma. Flavor is sweet malty, some kind of metallic bitterness and a bit fruity. Not much of a beer.
re-rated from tap as Traditioneel Natuurzuiver Bier. Pale golden with a big white head. Aroma is grain and apple. Refreshin, quite fruity with a hint of fresh apple. A better than average pilsner.

Bottle 30cl. Poured a dark amber with a thick white head. Slightly fruty caramel aroma. Malty flavour, slightly sweet hoppiness with notes of caramel. A little weak and disappointing in the aftertaste. Fizzy palate, reminiscent of sparkling water. Average pilsener, weak and watery.

Bottle 0,30 Ltr. One of the better Dutch-Inbev pilseners. Nice light sweet beer with a pleasant aftertaste.

UPDATED: SEP 13, 2007 Bottled 0,33L [Hertog Jan Traditioneel Natuurzuiver Bier].
Compact head of short resistance. Yellow pale color, much limpid one and with most light fizz. Inconsistent and lean scent and with aromas of malt, cereals and dry grass. Watery, bitterish and nearly lengthened taste. Short duration final, boring.

A Sim rate (bottled from Quinns): Sweetish blonde aroma. Malty with a hint of grape. Apple like flavour, slightly tangy. Hardly any head but decent lacing. Tangy finish.

(Bottled) Clear, golden color with a small, bubbly head. Mild, acidic-malty aroma with honey and corn hints. Honey-malty, lightly sweet and corny, smooth flavor with mild, grassy bitterness. Light to medium-bodied, a bit slicky palate with medium carbonation. A quite drinkable and sweetish-malty, basic lager - not much to do with pilseners, though.
