COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION

The description of this beer says that the only reason a tripel is called a tripel has to do with the alcohol percentage (instead of the ingredients...) Well this is definitely what Hertog Jan thinks a tripel should be; nothing more than a higher alcohol percentage, which I think is dull and boring. I’m drinking beer because of the taste not because I’m a homeless alcoholic.

500mL corked ceramic bottle Golden body, big white head. Mildly fruity nose, pale sugars, light toasty and spices. Full body, carbonation somewhat low. Reasonably sweet, sugary, spicy, pale fruits. Pretty good.

Bottle, 12C (a little colder would have been better). Deep gold with a white head that fades but laces OK. Aroma of oranges, hay, dough, flowers, mild spices. Carbonation is on the low side for a tripel and it’s rather sweet and a bit syrupy with hay and honey, dough, oranges, cloves. Just leans enough towards dry at the moderately bitter finish. Spices creep up a tad after a while. Fair enough.
