Draught @ Mike Hess North Park, San Diego, CA

Pours dark brown, almost black with a smooth white head. Aroma of roasty malts, licorice, coffee, chocolate, hints of grassy hops. Taste is heavy, roasty and hoppy with some salty licorice, chocolate, coffee and hops. Finish is smooth, slightly roasty and malty with some licorice. Okay, quite heavy black IPA.

On tap at the North Park location. It pours a dark brown color with a khaki head. The aroma has roasted malt, toast and some citrus. The flavor is chocolate, roasted malt with a little floral/piney bitterness. I would’ve thought this was just a hoppy porter. Not bad.

(En fût à la brasserie North Park): Chocolat lointain perdu dans une torréfaction résineuse et herbacée. Le corps est bien rond et facilite les choses mais on sent un peu trop bien l’alcool.

Draft at the brewpub/industrial workshop. Awesome dark pour with a solid head of tiny brown bubbles. Nice aroma of dark malt and light hops. Great balanced flavor that reminds me of Mandarin oranges with a lingering bitterness. Very nice.

Pours black with brown edges and one finger tam head. Aroma is of roasted malts, coco, espresso, citrus, ans some rye. Taste is similar to aroma but is hoppier and features some nice pine and citrus hop notes to balaced our the hops. Has a medium body with a semi creamy mouthfeel and a semi dry, medium long finish. Overall, a pretty tasty, pretty drinkable black IPA.

Tap at tasting room. Pours copper in colour, almost brown with a creamy tan head. Aroma is of roasted malts and various hops. Taste is sweet at first then mildly bitter and more intense at the end of the sip. Medium body, good carbonation, and a smooth full mouth feel. Overall an enjoyable IPA.
