A very drinkable, high gravity, crisp and spicy rye IPA, hopped generously throughout the brew process and then dry-hopped with over a pound per barrel of Sterling and Chinook hops. Earthy and spicy notes from both the hops and the rye malt, complimented by the floral and piney aromatics.

Bottle from Naples: Poured a solid golden elixir and was paired with a thick fluffy foam head. Aroma is fragrant with some touches of citrus like hops but there is also a heavy base of rye malts that intrigues my nose. Smooth palate with very fine carbonation levels while the beer doesnít leave behind any harsh finish or aftertaste. As for the drink, the beer has minor notice of hop bitterness while the bready rye malt is what distinguishes the flavor of this IPA.

Light amber color. Fairly subdued rye nose with a bit of hop character. Fairly big rye character, fairly malty. Kinda jumps up and then goes no where special.

Draught @ the brewpub, San Diego, CA. Pours a golden copper colour with a small foamy head. Aroma of bread, citrus and wet earth. Flavour of crisp citrusy bitterness, rather heavy maltiness, watermelon and grass. Full bodied. Heavy and sweet.

Draught @ the brewpub, San Diego. Aroma is sweetish and fruity with some candy and caramel. Flavour has gluey tones, some ryeish sweetness, caramel and harsh malt. Also grapefruity and aggressive hops. Finishes with lingering hops. Nice, although a bit too sweet.

Bottle. Big pour. Earthen orange, big head. Gritty, strong orange-laden, dirty hop character. Big, spicy drink. Save for a night cap. (#5995, 6/27/2015)

Pours a pale Orange with a nice white head. Head retention is good. AROMA: floral/herbal hops, caramel, spice, peppercorns, malt, citrus, pineapple, pine bitterness and slight tangerines. FLAVOR: Spice, hop bitterness, peppercorns, herbal tones, malt, rye, citrus, slight alcohol, pine bitterness, caramel and slight ginger. AFTER TASTE: peppercorns, hop bitterness, slight alcohol warmth and spice with a crisp dry finish. I have been putting off trying anything from Mike Hess but Iím glad I finally got to it. Awesome aroma and taste with a nice spice/peppercorn warmth to it.

On tap at the brewery. It pours a clear golden color with a white head. The aroma is fruity with some citrus and light tropical fruit. The flavor is the same. Caramel, florals and citrus. Not great, but clean and decently drinkable. A little too sweet and simple.
