COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Formerly Ex Umbris, Umbrix is rich, deep, and intensely complex. The roasted malts give this ale flavors of coffee, chocolate and toffee, while the rye malt and generous hopping rate result in light spiciness . Always smooth, always creamy, always great. Seven different malts, three American kettle-hop additions.

22 oz bottle shared by a friend, thanks Mike! Poured into a Belgian snifter. Dark brownish black with tan head. Aromas of roast, dark chocolate, coffee. Tastes of roasty notes, dark chocolate, coffee, light oak. Medium body with a dry finish. Nicely masked alcohol for the ABV.

10.2%ABV. Rye Imperial Stout. Tapped out 40ºSRM. Nose is going to be free associated: figs, dates, black honey, raw honey comb, maple sugar, molasses, licorice, peat smoke, hickory smoked ham, coffee, dark chocolate, ripe, almost black figs. There are some over-ripe stone fruit sweet aromas in the nose as well. Ripe dark cherries also figure in to the nose. Mouthfeel is soapy and almost syrupy. Palate is: burnt toast, peat smoke, treacle, hickory smoke, port, sherry, overall we are talking about a very complex sweet palate. There are dark sweet chocolate flavors with an medium agressive liquor like richness to the rich funk of properly fermented cacao nibs or ripe coffee berries. There is a maybe slightly random local tasting note. The bittersweet richness of the palate, coupled with the faint fume-y alcoholic palate shares some uncanny similarities to tasting a mid-season Champion durian from Pahang. Goes on Favorites List! Goes on all time Favorites List!!

On tap @ the brewery in Miramar. Near black, mahogany highlights. Roasty with assertive dark fruits and spicy undertones. Quite nice.

notes of chocolate and coffee for sure, but also a little spicy rye, alongside toffee and molasses. Sweet, roasty, bitter finish. Good stuff.

22oz 10.2% abv bomber pours with a deep dark black body that supports a full fairly dense dark chocolate mocha like head that leaves behind some spotty lacing. The modest aroma offers up subtle dark roasted to burnt malts and chocolate with faint toffee like malts and spicy hops well off in the background. The taste brings a soft smooth somewhat slick mouth feel with rich notes of malt sweetened dark roasted malts and some burnt malts. Toward midway it quickly picks up a pleasing blend of milk chocolate bar and supple sweetened dark roasted coffee. Behind all of those malts and roastiness are murmurs of spicy and bitter hops that have a thin pine hop edge. Lovely roasty sipper where the big abv is hardly noticed. This might as well be a 7% beer.

Bottle: Delivers as promised with chocolate smoothness, rye and hop spiciness, coffee bitterness and toffee sweetness. A wee bit if char and liquorice as well. A darn solid Stout and must say a bit under rated. I like it!
