4.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
22oz 10.2% abv bomber pours with a deep dark black body that supports a full fairly dense dark chocolate mocha like head that leaves behind some spotty lacing. The modest aroma offers up subtle dark roasted to burnt malts and chocolate with faint toffee like malts and spicy hops well off in the background. The taste brings a soft smooth somewhat slick mouth feel with rich notes of malt sweetened dark roasted malts and some burnt malts. Toward midway it quickly picks up a pleasing blend of milk chocolate bar and supple sweetened dark roasted coffee. Behind all of those malts and roastiness are murmurs of spicy and bitter hops that have a thin pine hop edge. Lovely roasty sipper where the big abv is hardly noticed. This might as well be a 7% beer.

Bottle: Delivers as promised with chocolate smoothness, rye and hop spiciness, coffee bitterness and toffee sweetness. A wee bit if char and liquorice as well. A darn solid Stout and must say a bit under rated. I like it!

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Draught @ the brewpub, San Diego, CA. Pours a black colour with a beige head. Aroma of rich dark roastiness, bread and licorice. Flavour of heavy rich roastiness, bread, floral bitterness, leather, licorice and pungent alcohol. Full bodied. Oily. Alcohol feels and warms. Maybe too much.

(32oz crowler) jet black pour, thick body that’s evident upon pouring, thick tan creamy head. Nose of squash (off flavor?), American hops, dark and milk chocolate. Taste of dark chocolate, American hops, fairly bitter but it’s somewhat balanced, milk chocolate, medium thick body, creamy, American hops, dark and roasty linger.
