3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 Ringo (963) - Loveland, Colorado, USA - DEC 8, 2002
It’s ok, not great, for some reason I was expecting something along the lines of St. Bernardus, but this is not quite it. Too hot, one dimensional, and only the very slight maltiness saves it from being a completely mediocre Belgian.
3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 Gusler (2654) - Tucson, Arizona, USA - DEC 8, 2002
The pours is a vaporous orange color, the head preposterous in size, the consistency foamy as they get, and light tan color and the lace large clumpy sheets. Sweet is the nose nice aromas of malt, yeast, bubble gum, fresh cut grass also come to mind, quite a mix of aroma’s to overwhelm the senses. Honey sweet at the start, the top middling in feel, sweet and sour hits your palate immediately along with the penetrating acidity. The Hallertau, Brewers Gold and Challenger hops up front and persistent in their spicy bite. Droughty sour aftertaste lingers on and also the 10% ABV, gives you a nice “Warm and Fuzzy” feeling, quite good I’d say, but then I’m overly partial to the “Belgian Strong Ales”, the worst I’ve ever had was “Wonderful”. Ranks #356 om my current 1000 beer master list.
3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 JoeM500 (1894) - Crown Point, Indiana, USA - DEC 4, 2002
Shiny brass color with frothy, foamy head about an inch thick. Lorraine Swiss, iodine, Brazil nuts, hay, and gueuze-like aromas. Lively carbonation and awesome Brussels lacing going on! Alcohol grows in the breath as it warms and greets your lips immediately. Many flavors bounce around, although not as complex and exotic as some better known Belgian Strong Ales. Some sugars, for certain, and some tart apple, peppery and slightly dirty spices, as well as small hints of clove and cinnemon. MJ says it is hopped three times and it is evident at the end if you can seperate it’s bitterness from the alcohol aftertaste. Decent, but nothing to get excited about.

Gigantic, frothy, compact head. Tangerine colored. Cane sugar, wild flowers, and mild copper aroma hint of band aids. Sweet malt and candy sugar to start followed by tropical fruit: kiwi, papaya, mild bananas. Dry peppery finish.

Hoping for something along the lines of St Bernardus I was somewhat let down. Nice looking, good aroma, and pleasant enough but never really develops into anything great. Left me with a slightly metallic aftertaste.
2.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 1/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20 rapkungen (19) - USA - NOV 27, 2002
Quite a disappointment. The primary taste was of alcohol, overwhelming all the other flavors

2.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20 Bloemart (257) - NETHERLANDS - SEP 26, 2002
I has been a while ago since I drank this, but what I remember is that it was very sour and bitter, so perhaps I had a very young bottle, not ripened enough.
3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 Wakie (612) - Centreville, Virginia, USA - SEP 7, 2002
Very hoppy with some mild fruit aftertaste. Had a hint of cinamon somewhere in there. Golden in color w/ no particularly spectacular aroma. Ok, not great but a rather standard Belgian.
