3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 cmonster (683) - Portland, Oregon, USA - APR 24, 2011

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 12HundredBaud (262) - Sausalito, California, USA - MAR 16, 2011
33cl bottle from a beer retailer. It pours an unclear dark brown/ruby liquid with an extremely high and creamy beige/tan head. The aroma has roasted malts, with some brown sugar, light caramel notes, dark fruits and some grassy hops. It tastes intense, very sweet, with a delightful combination of malts that gives a very smooth feel in the mouth, along with a little elegant hoppiness. It is low in bitterness, softly carbonated and full-bodied. It ends dry, leaving a malty aftertaste. Very nice presentation (bottle and crown cap) for a soft but flavoured dubbel. Original brew.
3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 brenn79 (924) - Idaho, USA - MAR 15, 2011
11.2 oz. bottle- Pours dark ruby red with a thin nice off white head, average lacework, aroma is raisins, brown sugar, yeast, very Belgium. The flavor is sweet then dry with a typical Belgium flavor, but there is a sort of aspirin type flavor, pretty unappealing. Carboantion is high, finish is dry and sort of bitter. Overall not bad but not great.
3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 crossovert (2790) - Wisconsin, USA - MAR 15, 2011
330ml bottle.
It ours a nice brown with a foamy off-white head that sticks nicely then recedes with a lot of lacing.
The nose is perfumey and fruity. It has the thick scent of flowers, dates, and raisins. There is a hint of spice and caramel as well.
The flavor brings to mind apples, raisins, and prunes. It has a metallic character that is kind of off-putting and herbally/medicinal hops.
It is an okay dark ale, perhaps a bit sweet.

3.2 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 ComradeK (530) - Blue Mountains, AUSTRALIA - MAR 15, 2011
330ml bottle. Pours a dark ruby chestnut, with a large off-white head, which lasts well and leaves good lacing. The nose is a bit odd. It does have a rather pleasing brown sugar aroma, but that is hard to detect behind the wall of sickly off-sweetness. It thus smells a bit like what I’d imagine the Boston Molasses Flood smelled like. For a dubbel, this is quite bitter to begin with, although the slightly oily hops are tempered by a concurrent sweet nutty flavour. Toffee notes come in strongly afterwards, followed by a mild mocha flavour. This is normally not my favourite style, as I find both dubbels and tripels to be far too sweet. This, however, is quite pleasant, and more complex than most. Decent stuff.
3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 Pawola22 (2207) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - MAR 3, 2011
11.2oz bottle from The Liquor Collection in Honolulu, HI. Pours a cloudy, brown colored body with an inch thick, dense and foamy, tan head that dissipates slowly and leaves a good amount of lacing throughout. Aroma is pretty nice. Lots of raisin and dates, darker caramels, light spices, and yeast. A few more dark fruits, a light grassy hop, a bit of a brown sugar sweetness, and a touch of toasty bread as well. Flavor is along the same lines. Lots of dark fruits and raisin up front with a good amount of darker caramels. Lots of dry yeast and some spices along with a distinct grassy hop throughout to balance the fruity caramels. A touch of toasty bread and brown sugar comes out at the end as this finishes dry with some yeasty spice, fruity caramel, and a good amount of grass that gives this a light bitterness. Lengthy aftertaste following a medium, smooth, somewhat watery feeling body and soft, creamily fizzy, higher level of carbonation. Overall, a pretty solid dubbel. Lots of fruity caramel with a good amount of yeasty spice and grass. Dries nicely too.
