For this sweet flavoured and dark brown beer,we use aromatic malt (for the dark colour). For abbey beer, Kapittel Pater has rather low abv (6%). The hop we use is Poperingse hop which has only a light bitter taste.

Clear reddish/brown beer. Smells roasted malt, sugarcane, mollasses, bread yeast. Flavor is sweet malt. Didn’t like considering this should be a dark ale. Ok, it is quite carbonated but the body is too light. I missed something in there.

Geur van ijzer en zoet, donkere kleur. Smaak eerst ijzer, daarna zoet karamel achtig met wel een alcohol smaak

UPDATED: DEC 18, 2014 Pours amber / orangish / brown liquid from a 0,33 cl bottle. Goes from a full alcoholish taste, then a bit metalish taste and fades out with a caramel like taste. Nothing special. Expected more when looking at the picture on the beer where monks are going mental!

A little heavy on the booze, with some light smokey aroma. Finishes with some light bitterness. Pours murky brown without much head or lacing. A touch of sugary malt. Not a huge palate. Bottle.

33cl bottle at home. Clear amber brown with a slightly off-white head soapy head. Medium body with low to moderate carbonation. Quite sweet with some bitter tones. Brown sugar, caramel, spics and some chocolate. It’s an ok brew, but a tad too sweet.

Bottle Pours clear brown with a red to amber glow . Good white head . Smell is earthy , bit spices, some bitterness. Some malts . Not really sweet, to my surprise . Taste is bitter, earth, some chcoolate tones, spiced, nice and creamy , sweet finish . actually , pretty damn enjoyable . Nice intensity , nice mouthfeel , perfect carbo . Eady drinkable . Some light caramel undertone ( barely there though ) and complex as a whole . I like this !

330ml served in a Leffe chalice. A: Pours a clear dark amber color forming a medium thin bubbled beige head. Great retention and lots of soapy and molasses lacings formed and left in the glass S: Sweet and fruity. Strong notes of grapes, raisins, toffee, caramel malts, roasted malts and candy sugar. Light flowery hops. Belgian-style bready and earthy yeasts. A bit boozy and a bit bubblegum in the very end. Strong Belgian character, as expected T: Sweet upfront. Very malty and fruity in the mouth too. Strong notes of grapes, raisins, toffee, caramel malts, roasted malts, candy sugar, oak. Some spices and some notes of bubblegum too. Light bitterness in the end. Hops are a bit citrus. Bready and biscuity yeasts profile. Again, quite Belgian M: Heavy and molasses body. Medium carbonation. Warming beer. Candy bittersweet aftertaste O: Good drinkability. Classic Belgian Strong Dark Ale. Recommended [ BA Review @ 12/26/2013 ]

Aroma of malt, slightly earthy. 33 cl bottle pours with a large head that rapidly disappears. Red brown in colour, clear and attractive. Taste is sweet to start, becoming moderately bitter, with a light sourness. Sweet malt comes to dominate. Good mouthfeel, long moderate bitter finish. Overall a pleasing beer.
