For this sweet flavoured and dark brown beer,we use aromatic malt (for the dark colour). For abbey beer, Kapittel Pater has rather low abv (6%). The hop we use is Poperingse hop which has only a light bitter taste.

Bottle, ~4 years old. Pours woody, mahogany brown, old caramelized nose, bit wooden and dusty. Still good, but rather one dimensional, a bit sweet and dull.

Bottle, 33cL. Home. A dull mahogany beer with brown hues at the bottom of my glass. Medium white head. Poor persistence. Fruity aroma (quince), spices, honey, caramel. Spicy sweetness balanced by some refreshing bitterness. Medium body and texture. Good carbonation. Lasting bitter finish with a warming note. Overall, I liked this beer : great aroma !

Bit like the Kapittel dubbel, but less full and therefore also a bit less tasty.

Pours a mahogony brown beer with a beige head. Aroma of dark malts, caramel, toffee, dark fruits, spices. Flavour is malty sweetness, brown sugar, raisins. Some spicy bitterness in the finish. Really enjoyed this one, for me a bit above the average Dubbel.

Clear dark ruby with lacing light brown foam head. Aroma is caramel dominated, but not too sweet. Likewise taste, a decent bit strong DUBBEL. nice aftertaste, bit sweer. (Velp 201401)

UPDATED: APR 6, 2014 Flasche (33 cl), 9 Monate im heimischen Keller gelagert. - Orangebraun.

0,33 l bottle from Fish&Beer, København. An amber to brown pour. Low stable off-white top. Initial aroma of stale hops, offset by a scent of caramel malts and fortified wine. Medium full. Sweet, failrly clean malt flavor. A light earthyness and hint of mild spices and fruit. Not a benchmark Dubbel, but goes well down.

Pours a clear brown with a thin offwhite head that offers great retention and lacing. Nose of raw malt sugar (unfermented wort) and grain husks. Strange. Taste is sweet and feels underattenuated overall. Flavors of sweet fresh wort again and not much else. Well, maybe some light fruitiness. Body is medium as is the carbonation level. Not sure if something went wrong with this beer or it was intended. An average brew overall.
