This dark beer has been brewed with careful attention in accordance with our age old brewing tradition. It is a flavourful beer, tasting slightly bitter-sweet.

Bottle at restaurant. Cloudy orange-brown with a rich nose - think oud, alcohol, Christmas and a leather saddle. The nose sets the tone for the taste - intense leather with lavashak, stone fruit, and some well controlled alcohol, which lends the beer a good body. This one is quite good actually.

330ml bottle from Verheyde, Watou. Pours dark brown, good cream head. Aroma is dark fruits, brown sugar, caramel. Taste is smooth, well-balanced full flavour, perhaps not as sweet as a Belgian dubbel but in the same ball-park. Very tasty indeed.

Toffee coloured pour, relatively clear, reasonable sized beige head. Sweet aromas of caramel, plums, dates, bread. The sweetness is also reflected in the taste but with a strong hoppiness as well - burnt caramel, brown toast, plums, cola, earthy and spicy hops. Long bitter finish. Medium bodied and slick. Quite good without being outstanding.

33cl bottle best by July 2017 - candy and dark fruit nose. Sip adds basement aromas. Complex flavors for sure. Sweet. Earthy finish.

Bottle at home. Pours red-brown in colour with a tan head that fades quickly. Aroma is rich malt, some yeast notes and spicy hop. Taste is sweet to start with some bitterness to balance. Malt driven flavours with more spice, berry fruits and peppery hop. The body is slightly thin for a beer of this strength, but very pleasant all the same.

Butelka 0,75l pita w domu. Kolor ciemnobrązowy, piana obfita, mocna. Aromat karmel i kasztany? łagodne, w smaku karmel i trochę wiśni, średnia goryczka. Bardzo dobre piwo, finisz z mocną goryczką.

At Bruges Beer Fest. It appears dark amber to brown with a creamy head. Aroma contains caramel, fruits, raisin, some coffee and chocolate. Tastes medium sweet towards a light but dry bitter finish. Medium to high carbonation, sticky texture. A decent Abbey Ale.

330mL bottle from International Beer Collector. BB 04/04/2017 Good looking murky bronze beer holding a good-sized creamy pale tan head. Aroma of sweet biscuit, dark caramel/brown sugar, sultana, bread dough, stewed berries, prunes, and savoury cake spices. Big creamy mouthful of a beer, not shy about its weight. Carbonation somewhat likely & coarse yet cuts through some richness. Somewhat sweet upfront - biscuit, brown sugar, medium sort of candy sugar with dried fruits of sultana and figs, savoury spices of clove & nutmeg & pepper, doughy sort of finish. Booze warms things up a touch, dries it out a bit too, bitterness reasonably high for style. Very tasty, good however lacking the finesse and complexity of a truly great beer.
