Bottle conditioned.
This dark beer has been brewed with careful attention in accordance with our age old brewing tradition. It is a flavourful beer, tasting slightly bitter-sweet.

Colour: brown with reddish-orange shine. The huge, yellow-brownish head, descending in rings, is characteristic to this beer, dubbed "beerchampagne" 25 years before beers wanted to look like champagne. Nose of raisins, portwine, a rich fruitcake. The thick head seriously hampers detection. Taste of smoked wood, bitterhops, liquoriceflavour without the sweetness. Lots of roasted malts, and metallic 'tweak'. Beer has lost its legendary sourishness, resembling more the cousins from Leroy brewery. Only little alcohol to detect in the palate. Metallic finish, with the roasted bitterness gets a little too. Still very good, but I used to like the old version better.

Nice amber-red color. Fruity aroma of cherries. Also fruity taste (cherries), a little malty and a sour touch.

rauchbier (3205) - Isle Of Beer, Lincolnshire, ENGLAND - JAN 20, 2003
Bottle Conditioned. Chestnut red, good rocky head and low condition. Alcoholic nose with hints of calvados and bready yeast. In the mouth it is sweet with tart apple notes that become metallic as it warms. Finish is dry with a hint of previously unadvertised roast barley bitterness. Barring the obvious initial waft of alcohol, It didnt really drink like a 9% beer.

Explosive. The aroma as well as the flavour contain notes of old cheese and horse barn. This is a very mature and quite challenging but good beer.

Aroma has cherry, cinnamon and pear. Complex flavor with glue, coffee, cinnamon, caramel, hops, oak cherry and a hint of sourness. Very unusual both herbal and fruity taste. But it’s a good beer!
