330ml bottle. Aroma: notes of caramel and raisins. Not that agreable Taste: notes similar to the aroma. Rather strong in alcohol, vinous one. Rather agreable Palate: Medium body, average/lively carbonation, rather bitter and abrupt finish Overall: not my prefered beer but rather good and agreeable in overall

330 ml bottle bought at Belgian Bear International in Tsuen Wan.

Cloudy hazy dull amber brown colour with a thin layer of dirt-like yeast sediments; Half finger head with off-white foam with fades in 40 seconds; Moderate sticky lacing and zero carbonation; Sweet aroma of roasted malt, with strong caramel and toffee, sugar, raisins, plum, dark fruits, Whisky-like booze and Bel yeast; Strong sweet taste of roasted malt, with very strong toffee, sweet caramel, booze, raisins, assorted darks fruits, light Bel yeast, light spices, light lime, and light bitter grassy hops; Medium body, slick and quite creamy palate; Mouth Feel is thick strong Dubbel, with very sweet but not-cloying roasted malt. Very strong toffee and caramel, accompanied by raisin, dark fruits and appropriate Whisky booze. Light yeast and faint spices, This is beyond Dubbel and more like a Quad. Hmmm… Hoppiness is no nose. Light lime and moderate grassy hops in taste. Bitterness is light but distinct, not enough to counter the caramel sweetness for a sweet-bitter semi finish; Slightly dry after taste. Boozy and quite creamy to mouth.

Comments: Having bad experience with Kapittel’s Abt, this is a considerably better outing with more acceptable palate, and pretty okay dark fruits and hoppy characters. The downside being too sweet and too strong - close to annoying - toffee and caramel aroma and taste, and creaminess is rather wimpy. Not cheap, but just low-middle BSA. A cheap fix to get you through a troubled night and nothing more.

Bottle from Dranken Pauwels. Colour is clear dark brown with reddish edges and a thin off white head. There’s a few floaty yeast particles in there too. Nose is rich caramel, ripe fruity esters, alcohol, malty, bread, grain husk. Taste is dark fruit esters, prune, raisin, plum, caramel, some bread, rye notes.

330ml Bottle. This pours a thick light tan head over a slightly murky medium brown body. Its aroma is delicious with dark fruits strong on the nose;.Taste wise it is a blast of sweetness that hits you on 1st gulp and it really doesnt give way to much else but a bitter coffee ish finish. Sip it and theres malts chocolate biscuits and yeast in there but again its all masked by an overpowering sweetness. If you want to get blotto and dont really care what a beer tastes like this one is for you. If you want to experience an evening of tasting fine beers - try another one.

Deep dark-red colour, hazy, beige head that doesn?t last. Aroma and taste get dried fruits like plums and raisins, spices like clove and nutmeg, liquorice, a bit bitter and grainy sweet malts. Balanced and round. Aftertaste is a bit dry, quickly gone. Disappointingly thin bodied, medium-low carbonation.

Good example of Belgian craftmanship. Yeasty, fruity, malty and hoppy. (aroma hops)

Bu avec date limite dépassée de 2 mois. La bière a très mal vieillie, perte d’odeur et de gout. A boire jeune donc.

Private import from the SAQ. Pours a hazy dark amber colour with lots of active carbonation of small bubbles. The head is creamy, becoming frothy and bubbly, lightly beige, with good retention and some foamy lace. Sour nose at first with a little chocolate, but then, aromas of toffee, raisins, other fruits and hints of anise (and other grass). The taste is pretty strong with metallic notes which gives out grassy hop and rusty water. The fruits does come out eventually and thankfully the finish is better and soft. Lots going on in this one, but not one I would buy more. Worth trying though.
