Bottle. Light peated whisky notes, thick, full body, dominated by dark chocolate, with some coffee and woody undertones. Excellent.

Bottle brought back from a trip to Amsterdam. Ppurs black with a nice big foamy beige head. Nice roasty malt aroma with notes of sweet vanilla and treacle. The taste is light spice with liquorice, toffee, leather, tabacco, vanilla and light smoke. Nice warming alcohol. A little thin bodied perhaps, but very tasty.

This is one of my personal favourites. Natural smokey aroma accompanied by a creamy head and texture. Sweet hints of chocolate and vanilla. Malty after-taste. caramel, chocolate, roasty, leather, smoke, woody, black, brown foam, medium sweetness, lightly bitter, full body, creamy, average carbonation, long finish,

Alengrin (4163) - BELGIUM - JAN 3, 2016
Bottle at Billie’s Bier Kafétaria. Pale yellowish beige, stable, lacing head over a near black beer with chestnut brown edges. Rather atypical aroma for an imperial stout (hence the qualification "double" on the label, I assume): strong shoe polish-like phenols, dusty old cocoa powder, pipe tobacco, charcoal, iron, vanilla beans, wet wood, cigar ashes. Softly sourish and umami onset with some candied fig-like sweetness, soft carbo, smooth oily mouthfeel less thick or viscous than expected, caramelly malt sweetishness, very toasted, a bit grainy, roasted with peppery hops in the finish as well as a strong, dry oak effect and warming, whisky-like alcohol. It took me a while to get used to this because it is different from your average RIS, but I sure enjoyed it in the end.

Deze stout heeft een koffiezwarte tint. De smaak is vol: hout, rook, koriander, pure chocolade en wat karamel. De geur heeft ook wat van houtskool.

Draft at Oersoep brewery, October 2015. Excellent imperial stout with coffee flavours and a nice sweetness, however not too sweet.

Nice black glass of sadness. Smells good, fruity and roasted. Almost woody flavors. Backlog from 2014/04/04.
