Bottle shared at Crooked Stave, courtesy of Greg. Pour is clear mahogany with a small tan head and great lacing. Tangy, dark fruity, yeasty, bready, light pepper, and grapey aroma. Taste is light spice, cherry pit, grapes, toffee, caramel, light figs, and raisins with a light alcoholic burn on the backend. Full mouthfeel with medium carbonation. Not bad.

July Ale Alpharetta. Nose indicated this was going to be one sweet beer. taste verifies a super sweet , big chewy caramel malty, some ripe berries, spice, oak, brown sugar, hint of vanilla, bourbon and booze.

750 mL bottle from Ale Alpharetta. Pours a slightly hazy, reddish-orange, with a small beige head. The aroma is candy orange slices, caramel, cinnamon, vanilla, and some light earthiness and some resin. Very sweet and malty, with a fairly significant savory spiciness. Heavy body, sticky, and syrupy. Overall, this is a big, boozy, malty beer. Not very subtle, but delicious, spicy, and thick.

Pours an appetizing clear mahogany with a thick, frothy, pale buff head. Strong, fruity aroma has a decided whisky overtone plus malty and woody notes. Lip-smacking flavor starts with fruity and whisky notes, then adds oak and subtle malty tones to the mix, finally tossing in a dash of hops. Texture is firm, smooth, and rather fizzy, leaving a finish that is fruity sweet but not cloying, and has a little kick of whisky at the very end. Breathe a little fire.

750ml bottle from Peabody’s in Boone, NC. Belgian scent with raisins, caramel, malt, toffee. No foam but leaves a film indicating the abv level. Ruby red in appearance and occasional look of brandy. Almost chewy feel with raisins, currants, malt, toffee, Belgian sugars and a good alcohol burn middle to end. Clean palate. Overall a solid beer.

750, capped and waxed. Thanks, D! Very cool birthday present, and an awesome, unexpected treat. Pours a hazy medium brown with very little head and no lace. Big tangy sweet brown sugar nose, showing some tart barrel character, with the smoke on the peaty side and way, way, way in the background. Sticky medium body, very little carb. Barrel character dominates. Wood and brown sugar on the mid palate, peat a bit more detectable there than on the nose. Long malty/bready sweet finish.
