A Western North Carolina take on the West Coast style IPA. Huge citrus hop aromas make this a Hop Head’s dream. Its full body balances well with the bitterness and allows the drinker to enjoy its depth of hop flavors and aromas.

Draft pour at hi-wire brewey. Very dark orange with a ton of frothy head. Huge citrus grapefruit and hoppy taste. Wicked bitter ending. Good brew

Bottle from Bruisin’ Ales. Amber pour with a frothy white head and sheets of lace. Grapefruit, white peach and tangerine hop aromas with subtle bready and caramel malt backing. Flavor is similar throughout with lengthy bitterness on the end. No sweetness coming through and well balanced. Solid stuff.

12 oz bottle. (Bruisin Ales) Asheville, NC.
Cloudy amber colour with a small offf-white head. Citrusy hoppy aroma with mild bitterness and sweet maltiness. The flavour is strong hoppy bitterness. Grapefruit and resin. A bit harsh. Sweet maltiness. A bit unbalanced.

Bottle brought from NC. Poured a clear golden amber color with a small off-white head. Aroma was light pine, with some malt and a touch of earthy notes. Flavor was pretty balanced, maybe a little too malt forward on this bottle. To be fair, I’m not sure how fresh the bottle is, it’s already in the recycling. The more crisp hop notes may have become a bit too subdued.

Pours a clean amber with a two finger creamy tan head. Nose is fine out of the gate but becomes taxing. I get some nice citrus and pine notes upfront but that quickly fades to burnt sugar and toast. Just too many competing aromas and too much caramel malt (malt in general).

Pint at Westville Pub. Cloudy Brownish copper. Smells like caramel and toast, then resin. Taste is resiny hops up front, then some caramel malts. Not bad.

Keg @ Hi Wire. Amber with a tight white head. Strong caramel Malt, onion, pine cone and resin. Taste is pretty aggressive. Orange peel and caramel creams. Oniony bitterness. Very much in jai alai’s wheelhouse. Medium body, soft carb. Solid if you like this style of IPA.

Asheville, NC - Bruisin’ Ales - 12 oz bottle. Pours a hazy medium orange with a soft, sticky off-white head. Aroma has a solid spruce profile, a hint of vanilla....may have been on the shelf too long. Flavor has some decent citrusy hop bitterness, some caramel sweetness, and a bit of butterscotch (on the shelf too long I suspect). Mouthfeel is thick enough. Not ad considering the wear and tear.

Sampled at the brewpub. It poured a hazy bronze color with a tan head. The aroma was of citrus, herbal hops and toffee malts. The taste was of citrus, earth, some resin and pine hops with toffee malts. Nice.
