3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
Hidatakayama’s Pale Ale on tap at Takumiya. It pours a glowingly vibrant copper color with fruity pine needles aroma. The taste is clean caramel biscuit, grape and a light bitterness. More English than American but solidly done, not too sweet and well balanced. It grew on me and went down smooth.

3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bottle from 7-11 In Takayama, 04/14/2015. Clear light copper pour, healthy head with some residual lacing around the glass. Aroma of cereal grains, mild sweet notes, soft grassy hops with touch of citrus edge. Taste mild citrus sharpness up front, spicy grass with cereal malts in the finish. Light body. Suppose this was a fresh bottle, decent enough and better than expected.

Tap at Craft Beer Server Land. Cloudy golden, not much head. Taste is citrusy, bit of biscuit, light bitterness. Aroma is malty, light hops. Perfectly nice if a little unexciting.

3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20

3.4 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Very nice, and not what one would expect from a Japanese microbrewer. Aroma is mainly light fruit and pour is an apricot amber with lingering head. The flavour is intially light apricot which then moves quickly to a pleasent bitter finish. Would classify this more as an American Pale Ale over an English style.

3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Solid enough but fails to lift from what is a fairly large pack for this style. Mildly hoppy with some passionfruit but there’s a slightly "off" note that suggests the bottle wasn’t in the best condition. Relatively low carbonation for the style.

3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Draught at Eni-brau in Osaka.
A very fruity, smooth, and mild version of a pale ale. Medium caramel malt richness, with bready taste, medium to light hops, bubble gum. Good balance, with just enough hops. Super smooth. Very well done and understated.

2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 12/20
My Bottom Line:
This frail Pale Ale has a few basic cereals to accompany the grassy hop presence, but its shyness and lack of cohesion got disappointing real fast.
Further Personal Perceptions:
-A sheet of foam dissolves into the pale blond.
-The grassy, fruity hop nose is quite subtle.
-The maltiness provides few flavors apart from distant caramel, and just enough body to carry the beer.
-Bubbles are large, but soft.
Can; best before July 31st (had on June 28th).
