Silphium (2001), Lansing, Michigan, USA May 24, 2007 On tap at Hideout. Opaque dark brown body with reddish highlights at the edges, thin buff head. Bourbon dominates the aroma. Sharp bourbon body with alcohol, coffee, dark chocolate, and a bitter, lasting finish. Pillowy and soft, but thin. Lacks heft. Decent, but too sharp and bourbon-forward. badnewsbeers (982), Grand Rapids, Michigan, USA May 15, 2007 Updated: Jul 12, 2007...on tap at the brewery...pours light black with medium ochre head..aroma of sweet malts, light bourbon, and a touch of coffee...an extremely soft and enveloping palate gives rise to an excellent bourbon aged beer...the bourbon present is not overwhelming and it complements the soft, sweet chocolate and coffee notes in this beer...marshmallow to follow with only hints at its high abv..nice
