3.1 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20
Very nice, rich stout. Immediate taste of hazelnut. Faint aroma, rich dark brown color. Buttery, coffee, nutty, and overwhelming hazelnut. Much like the crusaders weizen, too much flavoring. Good, though, in small doses.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Draught. Dark brown body with a small head. Rich hazelnut, vanilla, and creamy bread in the aroma. Interesting flavour with a creamy nuttiness, chocolate, and toasted malt. Quite nice and tasty.

3.8 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 16/20
Very thick dark brown, no head, like muddy water. Hazelnut and coffee in very pleasing aroma. Nice taste - some hazelnut, coffee, and sweet malt - like a starbucks treat. Really thin body, otherwise, I loved it, unlike some at the table.

2.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 12/20
Draught sample at MBG 2006 Summer Festival. Brown-black colour, no head, looks thin and brackish. Nose is mild, roasty and nutty, very pleasant. Body is thinner than I like from a stout - seemed more like a brown ale. Flavour has a bit of nut and roast off the top, leading to a quick bitter finish with notes of coffee and alcohol. Meh.

2.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 12/20
Draught. At 2006 Michigan Brewers’ Guild Festival. Murky deep brown, no head, kind of sludgey looking. Nutty, very sweet roast malt aroma, very much hazelnut dominated, with some light dry floral hops. Taste was a little wan, I mostly got vague roast malt, hazelnut and some watery nutshell bitterness in the finish. Extremely weak body, flat, bitterness in the finish - ehh, not much here, barely brown ale blood and bone character.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Michigan BGF 06, Day2: My last brew of the fest (gotta get one more stoutie rating, ha!). Deep black with small frothy tan head and some lace. The aroma has notes of hazelnut (duh), sweet caramel, chocolate, crabapple, and espresso. The taste is sweet and smooth but not cloy or syrupy. A nice grainy and espresso bite towards the finish. The nutty qualities shine more on the aftertaste. Not too shabby at all, I like the hazelnut addition and it adds to the beer.

3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Michigan Brewers Festival 2006. Hazy dark brown body. Aroma of sweet mocha and hazelnut. Flavour is a bit rough/sharp, some sweet malt and a very dilute roast. Average palate is a touch thin. I had hoped for more. 7/3/6/3/13

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Delicious and tastefully done. Pours a nice deep black with thcik tan head. Nose is awesome espressor and chocolate, with a thin fain air of well done hazelnut. Definitely no artificial flavor syrup in this one. taste is more of the same, with a nice bold acidic espresso note followed by a warm creamy hazelnut that lingers for a few minutes after each sip. Smooth going down. Yum yum.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Draught pint at the brewery on 5/12/06. Deep, midnight-black beer is opaque and almost looks chewy-thick from just the appearance. Creamy-caramel head is fairly well-retained, though not much lacing sticks. Nose alerts to the presence of hazelntu immediately, with lactose-like sugars, oddly enough, followed by a crunchy, not quite acrid, roastiness that has notes of heavy coffee and hersheys syrup fudge, bolstered by hazelnuts. Well I would rate the rest of this, it’s lovely and tastefully done, but I have to go drink a Drie Fonteinen beer. (and keep that nitro off of this!)

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Pint on draught at The Hideout. Pours a dark oily black color with a rich brown head. Head receedes to leave a small covering. Nose is sweet dark chocolate, some light coffee notes and some good nutty hints. Palate is velvety, and smooth as silk. Taste is thick, with some great coffee and nutty notes. Some very nice dark and milk chocolate notes.
