Commercial Description:
Beer of the Gods is an unusual blend of styles from Old Germany. We’ve taken the pale Pilsner malt used for Cologne’s famed Kölsch style and loads of spicy noble hops used in the best Altbier from nearby Dusseldorf. And we’ve topped it off with a liberal dose of extra aroma hops during a lengthy lagering stage. The result? An American beer that blends the best of two old world classics: a beer as drinkable as the very best Kölsch that satisfies like a supreme Altbier. Think of it as a German-style Farmhouse Ale. Beer of the Gods is, of course, unpasteurized and unfiltered. Alcohol content is 4.9%.

Sampled on Glouglou’s roof at out summer BBQ blowout tasting

Peach purée baby food colored with a thin ring of tiny bubbles.
The first whiff was all oranges, then it quickly turned into this weird wet hair/bad perm, a kind of funk that I just don’t like, which is surprising because I usually love all things funky and no one else at the tasting picked this up, so maybe it’s me.
The initial sips were astringent like unripe bananas, but it smoothed over eventually to blossom in fairly flowery tones and got better with each sip, but overall it didn’t do anything for me. I’ll have to try this one again, so for now it gets a passing grade.

22oz. Bottle: Sweet aroma of lemon, citrus, yeast, hops, and a little grass. Poured gold in color with a medium-sized, fluffy, pillowy, white head that lasted throughout. Hazy. Not sparkling. Full of tiny particles. Excellent lacing. Medium bitter flavor. Tastes of hops, grass, funk, soap, malts, pepper, and raw dough. Medium body. Gritty texture/ Average carbonation. Gross, bitter, slightly sour, dry, raw dough finish.

Bottle from Sainsburys, swindon, England. This is the version brewed in Oxon, England. Pours much paler than I expected, yellow with a golden tinge, thin, white lagery head. Nose is reassuringly funky, lemony, biscuity, blossom. Biscuit carries into the flavour, sweet, sour then bitter quite quickly. earthy hops linger. I quite like it. Im glad its a live beer it may be bland pasteurised.

22oz bottle purchased for $4.50 from Bauer Wines in Boston. Pours a just-opaque light gold with a fluffy head. Gentle hop aroma. Flavour is uninspiring and light. Starts off a bit empty upfront, though it does make its way to a decent mild bitterness in the aftertaste. Nice lacing.

This beer is pretty much crap. Thin, rather acidic aroma. Papery, bitter flavor. Blech.
